Ladies' Night Out Tuesday features food, wine and shopping to benefit Food for Thought

Food for Thought in Carson City will hold its fifth Ladies' Night Out: An evening of Food, Wine and Shopping on Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m.
This night is designed for ladies wanting to take in a unique Christmas and holiday shopping experience, while at the same time helping feed local children in the community.

Food For Thought is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing healthy food to hungry children in Carson City, Silver Springs and parts of Douglas County. Each Friday, Food for Thought provides a healthy bag of food to local hungry children allowing them to eat on the weekends and to arrive at school on Monday nourished and ready to learn. The organization is helping provide food to more than 760 children each week during the school year. Follow them on Facebook here.

For $15 participants can taste wine, enjoy tasty appetizers and find great bargains at Carson Mall, including many local businesses who will set up booths. A man was arrested early Saturday in the 100 block of East Telegraph following an incident where a weapon was allegedly brandished, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Two others were also arrested for suspicion of obstructing.

Classy Seconds Thrift Store, a revenue arm of Advocates To End Domestic Violence shelter, held its grand opening Saturday at its new Gordon Street building in Carson City.

Executive Director Lisa Lee pushed the doors open at 9 a.m. to greet an eager crowd of dozens who gathered to get their first look and bargains at the thrift store's new home.

Tiffani’s 5th annual Sealed Toy Drive has commenced with 17 drop off locations in and around Carson City. The "sealed" toy drive allows hospitalized children who have to stay in their room, or are unable to play with used toys, a chance to receive a small gift basket of toys and games to play with over the holidays.

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday in the area of Mark and James streets for suspicion of felony drug possession with intent to sell marijuana and possession of more than one ounce of marijuana, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

UPDATE 8:20AM: Managers at Q's barbecue in Carson City say they hope to be open by Monday following a kitchen fire late Friday night. The restaurant was unoccupied at time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. Western Nevada Musical Theater Co.

During an official ceremony, 2,000 American flags were officially retired Friday. The ceremony was led by Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, with local elected officials, veterans groups, the Carson High School NJROTC and others.

A GoFundMe page has been established for the seven teens injured in Thursday's single vehicle rollover crash on Kings Canyon Road. The page creator is listed as Jasmyn Riediger, a Carson High School student and friend of the victims.

UPDATE 2:24PM: From the Nevada Highway Patrol: Seven juveniles were involved in Thursday's crash in west Carson City on Kings Canyon Road. Five were not wearing seat belts, two were ejected. Two are suffering life threatening injuries, and 3 are in critical condition.

Seven teenagers were injured, some critically, in a single vehicle rollover crash that happened late Thursday night on Kings Canyon Road, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. At least two were flown by air ambulance to Renown Medical Center.

The Carson City Senior Center presented a salute to Carson City veterans Thursday. The program featured Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and members of the Carson High School JROTC representing each branch of the United States Military.

Students at Bethlehem Lutheran School in Carson City stepped up to help Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, Thursday at their annual canned food drive.

Carson City Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon to a report of a power line sparking and causing a small brush fire in an area between Duck Hill Road and Goni Road northeast of Carson City and southeast of Washoe Lake.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - The Carson High School Career and Technical Education program and Victoria Defilippi, a senior CTE student and HOSA state officer, helped Carson Middle School to create its own health science student organization, HOSA, the first middle school program of its kind for the school and the state.

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and the Eldorado National Forest will begin the sale of Christmas tree permits on Monday, Nov. 13. Permit holders may choose from a variety of pine, fir or cedar trees up to six inches in diameter at the base in designated cutting areas.

A 64-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly hitting a vehicle she had been pursuing, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

It definitely feels like soup weather, so it’s only appropriate that the Carson Chamber of Commerce is hosting one of their ‘Soup’s On’ Lectures.

Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen has announced his intention to retire at the end of this year. His appointed in January 2003 peaked a law enforcement career in Carson City and with the Nevada Department of Public Safety, culminating in 36 years of enforcement experience.

The Salvation Army will host a job fair this Friday, Nov. 10 beginning at 9 a.m. at its Carson City offices located at 661 Colorado St.

A new scholarship through the Western Nevada College Foundation encourages students to pursue careers in education. The Dr. Eugene Paslov Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to two students who plan to dedicate their careers to education.
