2,000 American flags retired at ceremony in Carson City on Friday
During an official ceremony, 2,000 American flags were officially retired Friday. The ceremony was led by Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, with local elected officials, veterans groups, the Carson High School NJROTC and others.
Peter and Chloe Woodbury along with older brother PFC Noah Jennings, Nevada Army National Guard, worked with the local Daughters of the American Revolution Battle Born Chapter and Carson City to organize the flag collection and spoke at the ceremony.
Following the remarks and the Presentation of Colors by the Carson High School NJROTC was the firing of a volley by the American Legion High Desert Post 56, and a performance of Taps by Nevada Veterans Coalition member, Ray Arenholz.
Those in attendance watched solemnly as Carson City Supervisor Brad Bonkowski and the Carson City Fire Department ignited the pyre of carefully folded flags.
