Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights reunites with the Empty Bowls Project
The Annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights and Official Tree Lighting tonight, Friday, Dec. 5. is more than just flipping on the holiday lights in downtown Carson City; Santa, carolers, soup, hot chocolate, and ice skating all play a part in the fun.
The Itinerary for the festival is as follows:
- 4 p.m. - 7 p.m Telegraph Square: Empty Bowls Soup Feast: $12 per person includes one artisan bowl and admission to enjoy locally made soup donated by Carson restaurants and organizations. In addition, there will be a silent auction consisting of donated handmade select bowls, other artwork and merchandise. All proceeds go to local 501(c)3, Friends In Service Helping (FISH), to feed the hungry.
- 5:30 p.m. Capitol Steps: Carson City 5th Grade Music Students Singing Ensemble begins carols. Hot chocolate and coffee at the corner of Carson and Musser Streets by the Elks Club.
- 5:30 p.m. Capitol Steps: Santa Claus arrives in a 1927 Seagrave fire engine.
- 5:45 p.m. Capitol Steps: State Tree Lighting; all of Carson Street is lit up.
- 5:55 p.m. Capitol Steps: Remarks by Nevada State Officials.
- 6:00 p.m. Procession: Follow the fire engine; Candlelight Procession to the City Tree at Musser and Nevada Streets.
- 6:15 p.m. Musser and Nevada Streets: City Tree Lighting by Mayor Bob Crowell.
- 6:30 p.m. Telegraph Square: Carson Middle School Band to perform holiday music.
- 6:45 p.m. Telegraph Square: Carols by Carson High School Chamber Choir.
- 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Arlington Square Ice Rink (Carson and Robinson Streets): Free Ice Skating for children 12 and under. Hot dogs and chili dogs by the Elks Club and cookies and hot chocolate from the Downtown Business Association.
