Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of Macy’s "Yes Virginia: The Movie Musical," which will be available to view On-Demand from Dec. 18-31.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. Even the Grinch is distressed as the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights becomes another casualty joining all the Carson City signature events cancelled since March 2020 due to the pandemic.

If this hater of everything Christmas is distressed, you can just imagine how sad all those who love this Carson City tradition will be.

Sierra Lutheran High School will host the 3rd Annual Christ is Christmas Craft Fair Saturday, Nov. 7, on the SLHS campus from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The school will be strategically using outdoor and indoor space on its 34-acre campus to promote the kickoff to the Christmas shopping season within social distancing guidelines.

A surprise early visit from Santa Claus and his band of decked-out merry helpers brought beaming smiles and joy to dozens of capital city children and their families Christmas Eve, a tradition held for nearly 40 years by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Reserve Santa program.

Santa Claus is making his last stop today, Christmas Eve, at the V&T Railway in East Carson City. He will be inside the gift shop until 6:30 p.m. The V&T Railway is located at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Go here for directions and a map. The spirit of Christmas is in the air as we head into the final stretch of the work week. Thursday events around the capital city feature an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a Carson City tradition with the return of Joyful Noise Holiday Community Show at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

The Nevada Talk Network brings a huge Christmas Wish to the state beginning at noon Christmas Eve until 8 p.m. Christmas night.

Clouds will roll into the capital city region Tuesday keeping temperatures quite chilly. Events around the capital city Monday include a free yoga class offered through Partnership Carson City, the first day kickoff of a Holiday Gift Making Camp at the Brewery Arts Center, a Carson River Trails Project open house hosted by Parks, Recreation and Open Space, a Carson City Democratic luncheon featuring a Bernie Sanders campaign presentation, West Coast swing dancing at Carson Lanes and more.

More than 150 seniors in Carson City received a visit from Santa Claus and his helpers on Saturday through Friends to All, a Nevada nonprofit whose goal is "touching hearts with a visit."

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. In December, Mondays don't really seem like Monday. At least for those of us caught up in the holiday spirit of giving and kindness. What a weekend of community fellowship this was among Carson City locals and we're just getting started, counting down the days until Christmas.

With family activities making up the Christmas tree lighting at the capitol on Friday night, Saturday night is reserved for grownups who are invited to take a festive walk through downtown Carson City and make stops and their favorite restaurants and bars as part of a community fundraiser for local schoolchildren who are without permanent homes.

CASI and Benson's Feed invite our furry friends to have their pictures taken with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 7 beginning at 10 a.m. Crafts and refreshments will be on hand with proceeds benefitting Critter Fixer, CASI's low cost spay/neuter voucher program for pets whose families can't afford this important service.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City launches its 35th year of Santa Train the weekend of Dec. 7 and tickets are available online and at the museum’s depot now.
