Since 1988, the Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights has heralded in Carson City’s holiday season. The festival has grown from a simple tree lighting on the capitol grounds to involving the entire downtown core attracting thousands to enjoy this very special event.

Heading into the weekend before Thanksgiving, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 25th annual Carson High School Holiday Craft Fair, a “War of the Worlds” play at the Brewery Arts Center, a Chili Bingo Night fundraiser to benefit the Carson Middle School Band, laughs at the Carson Nugget and much more.

Delicious, zesty chili served with Bingo games and a raffle with fantastic prizes will guarantee a great family Friday night at Carson Middle School in Carson City.

Carson Middle School Band program's annual Chili Bingo Night happens this Friday, Nov. 22, in the school's gym, 1140 West King Street.

The Capital City Community Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, will present a free Summer Showcase Band Concert on Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center’s outdoor stage at Minnesota and King streets in Carson City, the same stage used for the Levitt Amp concerts. Some seating is available, and the public is invited to bring chairs.

Not only is Friday the first day of March in this 2019 calendar year but it is also the end of the work week. And for this we say welcome to a month that brings us the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, which is this Saturday, NCAA basketball playoffs, St. Patrick's Day celebrations and the first day of spring. Carson Middle School's annual Chili Bingo Night takes place this Friday, March 1, in the school's gym. The event begins at 6 p.m. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to Carson Middle School Band program which is raising money for new instruments, storage space, and upgraded percussion.

In its sixth year, the Empty Bowls fundraiser Friday Night drew huge crowds to the Carson Mall for a night of delicious soup, live music, a silent auction, and all around festive fun.

In its sixth year, Carson City has fought hunger during the holidays in a very unique way by serving delicious hot soups prepared by local restaurants that are dished up in ceramic bowls made by the hands of people in the community.

This Friday, the all-you-can-eat fundraiser returns, this time at the Carson Mall, with an array of holiday entertainment, an auction, raffle and more to go along with delicious, savory and soothing hot soup delights.

The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. inside the Carson Mall's north entrance.

For six years now, the Carson City community has been helping to feed the hungry through Empty Bowls, an international project to combat hunger worldwide, with an annual fundraising event during the Christmas season.

It’s been a cold week, and today is no exception, but you can have a hot time tonight. Live music, comedy, and karaoke are just some of your nightlife options. It’s family BINGO and Chili night at Carson Middle School: get some grub, maybe win one of the great prizes, and help the CMS Band Program raise funds. Dayton has a BINGO night of its own. Head to Dayton High School to get in on the action. It’s opening night for the Proscenium Players. Their production of ‘Love Letters’ runs for one weekend only, so get your tickets early. Students, K-12 and University, will enjoy the free swim day at the Carson Hot Springs. The Carson Nugget is turning into quite the downtown hotspot with a different headlining comedian each Friday, in addition to live music in two places. Check out their newest offering, the Beer Bar, during tonight's grand opening. So much more awaits you today, you'll just have to see what strikes your fancy.

Do you believe in magic? The Friends of the Carson Middle School Band Program hope you do and come out to enjoy an evening of illusion at the Community Center. Earth week kicks off at Western Nevada College with a clothing donation drive for Big Brothers and Sisters. Learn about various organizations, Carson City history and heritage, and enter the free raffle at tonight’s ‘Explore Culture and Diversity’ event at the Carson Library. Join the boys of J and M Productions for another fun night of karaoke at Caterpillar’s Hookah Lounge.

WEDNESDAY:

Happy Anniversary, Mile High Jazz Band. Every second Tuesday they play a concert at Comma Coffee, and have for fifteen years. Help them celebrate. Grab your dancing shoes and head to Carson Lanes and learn some country line dancing. Kids won’t want to miss Craft Day at the Carson City Library: all supplies are free and waiting. It’s an evening of illusion at the Brewery Arts Center. Be dazzled and help raise funds for the Carson Middle School Band Program.

Carson City residents are invited to "An Evening of Illusions," a benefit for the Carson Middle School Band and Orchestra program, on Tuesday, April 12, at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

Garry and Janine Carson from Las Vegas are back on tour with a brand new stage illusion show, with 100 percent of all ticket sales supporting these dedicated CHS music students.

Hot chocolate, Santa, soup, and song made the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival a success. The annual event co-sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and the Redevelopment Committee brought young and old downtown to watch the Capitol light up.

A Christmas Fair in Telegraph Square featured entertainment by the Carson Middle School Band, the Carson High Chamber Choir, and the Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers. Craft booths for the kids, vendors, and a roaming Grinch were all a part of the action. Santa’s appearance was the icing on the cake.

I love Carson City. Our downtown makes every season special: flower baskets in the summer, daffodils in springtime, the changing leaves of autumn, and winter means the Nevada Christmas tree at the Capitol. Chestnuts will be roasting at the Carson City Elks booth on Telegraph Street this Friday as thousands assemble to hear the Carson City School District Fifth Graders sing traditional carols on the steps of the capitol as part of the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights will officially kick off Friday evening, Dec. 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the steps of the State Capitol in Carson City.

Now in its 25th year, the annual event is sponsored by the Carson City Redevelopment Authority as part of their efforts to showcase the downtown core and to bring families together to enjoy the advent of the holiday season.

Seventy-five budding artists from kindergarten through grade 12 entered their art work into an annual contest recently as part of Carson City's annual Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights.

Each year, the teen board of the Carson City Library chooses a theme to coincide with the Christmas holidays. This year’s theme was “A Novel Christmas,” asking children to draw what Christmas would look like in their favorite novels.

Carson Middle School's annual Chili and Bingo Night has become a cherished and favorite annual springtime Friday night Carson City family event.

With dozens of prizes up for grabs through bingo and raffle games, as well as a silent auction and the best homemade chili dished up in the state, Carson Middle School PTA organizers are hoping to make this year's March 28 event, the biggest yet.

Carson Middle School PTA is hosting our Family Chili Bingo Night on Friday, March 28 from 6-8 pm in the CMS cafeteria.

Please come down to the Grocery Outlet parking lot and get your car washed on September 21st from 9AM-1 to support the Carson Middle School Band. They will be performing in a band compition in Southern California and need the community's help in getting there to play. Last year they took first place in the Northern California competion! Come support the CMS advanced band! Tickets are $5.00 a car. All proceeds will go directly to the CMS band.

UPDATE: Tonight is your night, Carson City. Free admission for all, plenty of chili and refreshments and an opportunity to win some pretty impressive prizes are in store at Carson Middle School beginning at 6 p.m. during its huge Family Bingo and Chili Night party.

When it comes to tradition, Carson City has many, but how many include a huge game of family bingo, served up with delicious bowls of chili and plenty of opportunities to win some really nice prizes?

The Carson Middle School Parent Teachers Association will hold its annual Family Bingo and Chili Night fundraiser, set for Friday night, March 22, 6 p.m. at the middle school's Cafetorium on King Street. Want to know how popular this event is? Well, last year more than 500 attended.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval will join Grand Marshall Ed Hooks in leading the Virginia City Veterans Day Parade at 11 a.m. today.
Sandoval and Hooks will be among the many entries, usually more than 50, depending on the weather, that will take part in the parade. Several marching bands, including the Carson Middle School band and one from Fernley will perform in the parade.

On Carson City's Web site today is a scrolling list of city employees who have served at various capacities in the nation's military branches.
