Reno Ice, the region's first and only NHL-regulation sized ice rink, has officially opened.

Wildlife was seen doing what wildlife does recently at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City. This duck was seen ice skating on a frozen pond.

Celebrate 135 years at Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City, Nev. on Friday, March 6. Piper’s Opera House bravely opened for the third time in 1885 after burning to the ground twice before. Never has there been a gathering space in Virginia City for events such as melodramatic theater, political rallies, boxing matches, roller skating, and elegant balls.

The Reno Ice project, a $9.5 million indoor ice skating facility in south Reno, will break ground on phase one in March, the group announced Friday.

Carson City’s The Wheelhouse, which specializes in all things skating, scootering, bicycling and more, has moved their location to 1800 E. William Street, Suite No. 1, to be closer to the Mills Park Skate Park and more centrally located within town.

The Wheelhouse has always been heavily involved in the Carson City community, from hosting skate and scooter competitions to one-on-one training sessions with kids, all with the value of instilling confidence and camaraderie in mind.

This Saturday is all about film appreciation around the area. The Carson City International Film Festival wraps up today inside the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, while the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival occurs at CVIC Hall in Minden.

For the sixth year in a row, music and skating will be brought to Reno in an all day, all ages party and skate competition. This year, Carson City’s own Wheel House will be sponsoring the event along with Suffix Skateboarding.

The event will be held at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor in Reno, located at 71 S. Wells Avenue, from noon to midnight.

The Wheel House in Carson City was the place to be Saturday afternoon for skateboarders, scooter riders and fans of the wheeled sports.

A couple of times in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life," main character George Bailey closes his eyes, raises his right hand, and says "I wish I had a million dollars!" while pressing the lever of a lighter contraption on Mr. Gower's drug store counter.

Buying the Ormsby House wasn't on George Bailey's wish list. Then again, he'd need at least 10 times more if it was.

Do you have children in the Carson City School District? Then most likely this month you’ll be attending at least one holiday concert as December seems to be the most musical month of the year for Carson City kids.

Mother Nature and Father Time often don't agree here in Northern Nevada. While the calendar marks today as the official start to Fall, the weather still feels like summer.

The Carson Victory Rollers, Carson City's own hometown roller derby team, will play the Lockford Liberators Saturday afternoon, Sept. 1 in a bout doubleheader at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

The sweltering humidity didn’t keep away skaters and bikers of all ages from celebrating the fourth anniversary of Carson City’s very own Wheel House on Saturday afternoon.

Playing in the snow probably isn’t an option for this weekend, but Singing in the Rain sure is. The kids of Youth Theater Carson City present a junior adaptation of the musical favorite this weekend and next. The Experimental Aircraft Association hosts ‘Young Eagle’ flights every few months at the Carson Airport to give kids 8 – 17 a plane ride to remember. Thousands of people turned out Saturday morning to celebrate the near-completion of the much-anticipated Carson City Interstate 580 freeway bypass riding their bicycles, walking, jogging or skating on top of the pavement that will soon carry tens of thousands of vehicles upon it when open next month.
