Carson City School District meeting to discuss Pre-K, graduations, budget, and more
The Carson City School District will be holding its upcoming School Board meeting Tuesday, May 28 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street, beginning at 6 p.m.
On the docket are the Superintendent’s Report, which will discuss the following:
— Recognition of School Board Representatives from Carson High School and Pioneer High School
— Introduction of Carson High School U.S. Presidential Scholar, Crystal Vargas
Recognition of Carson High School’s NJROTC program, named number one unit in Area 13, a contender for national recognition.
— Recognition of the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada Partnership with the Carson City School District Pre-K Program
— Recognition of the Pre-K teachers and program in the Carson City School District
There will also be a general discussion of Carson High School and Pioneer High School activities, and an update from the Nevada Association of School Boards.
Superintendent Richard Stokes will be introducing the 2019 Carson City School District retirees and employees who will be leaving the district after 10 or more years of service.
Susan Keema and Alison Cadwell will discuss and the board will possibly act on the adoption of Advanced Placement (AP) psychology material for grades 9-12, as well as the adoption of social studies materials for grades 6-12.
A second reading and possible action will be held regarding proposed changes to corporal punishment, eliminating CCSD Policy 537 relating to transfer of students, and changes to CCSD Policy 543.1 relating to preventing sexual misconduct toward students.
The Budget Preparation Timeline and introduction of topics for the public hearing on the budget will be discussed briefly, followed by a potential approval for the revised capital improvement plan for the district.

June 4: Pioneer High School Graduation, Community Center, 6 p.m.
June 5: Carson Middle School 8th Grade Promotion, 1 p.m.
June 5: Last day of school for students; minimum day schedule, students released at the following times:
— Pioneer High School 11:30 a.m.
— Carson High School 11:40 a.m.
— Middle Schools 12 p.m.
— Elementary Schools 12:40 p.m.
— June 8: Carson High School Graduation 9 a.m.
