Dates announced for 2019 Carson City Cooperative Extension Capital City Farm Days
Carson City Cooperative Extension’s Capital City Farm Days is set for April 11-12, 2019. This popular annual event for pre-K though 5th graders takes place at Fuji Park Exhibit Hall and Carson City Fairgrounds.
Students, teachers and parent chaperones begin arriving at 8:45 a.m., and, weather permitting, are welcome to bring lunch and eat in the park. Attendees should plan to stay 2 hours in order to get the most out of the presentations and exhibits.
Presenters explain where and how we get our food and clothing. Interactive stations engage students about the challenges facing Nevada farmers and ranchers; how agriculture affects our environment and how our environment affects agriculture in our Great Basin.
Exhibits include 4-H and FFA members showing their cows, pigs, poultry, sheep and rabbits. Presentations include: bees, native pollinators, composting, Moolissa the milking cow, branding, invasive weeds, using sheep or goats for wildfire suppression, composting and water issues.
The event is free. Barn exhibits and presentations will be cancelled if severe weather sets in. Presentations will continue in the Exhibit Hall. The Fairgrounds are located at 701 Old Clear Creek Road, Carson City. For more information, please call Sandy Wallin at 775-887-2252.
