Carson City area weather: Heat returns, temperatures near 100 by weekend
Cooler temperatures over the past few days will come to an end as a gradual warming trend takes over for the remainder of the week, with temperatures expected to soar to near 100 around Carson City and surrounding counties by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
A weak trough will meander slowly across the Sierra and Great Basin through Friday with temperatures warming each day. There's a slight chance of thunderstorms Thursday. Near average highs will warm to around 10 degrees above normal by Friday.
The heat is expected to peak this weekend with forecaster confidence in agreement for another round of hot temperatures, close to 15 degrees above average Saturday and Sunday when highs will approach 100 degrees across western Nevada and 85 to 90 at Lake Tahoe and Sierra communities.
This puts the heat risk back into the moderate category which is a level that impacts most individuals who are sensitive to the heat, according to NWS forecasters.
While temperatures will be in the lower 80s Wednesday, the heat will begin to pick up beginning Thursday with highs near 90.
The weekend forecast as of Wednesday, for the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, Friday will bring high temperatures in the low to mid-90s with Saturday in the upper 90s to near 100 and Sunday in the mid 90s.
At Lake Tahoe, temperatures Friday will be in the low to mid 80s, with Saturday in the upper 80s, and Sunday in the mid 80s.
The weather service advises people to take basic precautions to protect against heat-related illness: drink plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon, and never leave children or pets in your car unattended for even short periods of time.
