Here we are, entering the end of the work week. We welcome Friday, April 12, 2019 with a forecast calling for mostly sunny skies with a daytime high in the low to mid 50s. Not bad. University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s 4-H will host its annual Capital City Farm Days this Thursday and Friday, April 11-12 at Carson City Fairgrounds, Fuji Park.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s 4-H presents Capital City Farm Days, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 11-12 at the Carson City Fairgrounds and Fuji Park Exhibit Hall, 601 Clear Creek Road in Carson City.

There will be about 30 presenters teaching elementary-age youth about Nevada agriculture, where food and fiber come from, and environmental issues related to agriculture.

Carson City Cooperative Extension’s Capital City Farm Days is set for April 11-12, 2019. This popular annual event for pre-K though 5th graders takes place at Fuji Park Exhibit Hall and Carson City Fairgrounds.

‘Break a leg’ to the talented kids in Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Their newest production, ‘Junie B. Jones, Jr.' opens at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall tonight. I think we are all ready for some warmer, sunny days. Western Nevada College is hosting a reception for the student artists whose work is now adorning their gallery walls, go take a gander. You’ll probably want to layer up if you join Muscle Powered on today’s hike from Ash Canyon to Kings Canyon. It might be a little chilly, but the views of our valley are worth it.

In this week's It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Sandy Wallin of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, which is hosting Capital City Farm Days this Thursday and Friday at the Carson City Fairgrounds and Fuji Park Exhibit Hall.

Nevada's rural roots will be on display for school children to see next month in Carson City with the annual Capital City Farm Days, hosted by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 4-H.

THURSDAY:

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s 4-H's Capital City Farm Days in Carson City is set for April 20-21. There will be 28 presenters teaching elementary-age youth about Nevada agriculture, where food and fiber come from, and environmental issues related to agriculture.

Today has a lot going for it. Food Truck Friday is the theme of the new United Federal Credit Union’s Grand Opening week: you can find them across the street from Mill’s Park on Williams St. Earth Day weekend kicks off at Western Nevada College with a Gem and Mineral Sale during the day, followed by a presentation by World Renowned Scientist: Dr. Charles Goldman in Marlette Hall at 7 p.m. Break a leg to the cast of ‘Harvey.’ The Procenium Players open their two weekend run at the Brewery Arts Center’s Black Box Theater tonight.

Thank goodness we are only two months from the first day of summer; spring is such an unpredictable season. Blustery today, rainy tomorrow, the threat of some snow in a few days. Take advantage of a nice day whenever it appears. Bike night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar is one way to do that.

Thirty presenters, including representatives from the Nevada Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada State Museum, and other local and state agriculture and natural resources organizations, will teach preschool and elementary-age youth about Nevada agriculture, where food and fiber come from, and environmental issues related to agriculture.

Capital City Farm Days returns to Fuji Park and Carson City Fairgrounds April 21 and 22. The event is free and open to youth pre K-5th grade.

Presenters explain where and how we get our food and clothing. Interactive stations engage older students about the challenges facing modern farmers and ranchers: how agriculture affects our environment and how our environment affects agriculture.

This National High Five Day I’m throwing out a virtual high five to the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension for putting on this year’s Capital City Farm Days at Fuji Park. 4-H is alive and well in our region, and rightfully so. Agriculture is a huge part of what makes this state great. The program is geared toward school-children, but is open to the public today and tomorrow if you want to learn more about ranching and farming in our region.

Attendees will include public, private and home-schooled students and their families from Carson City, Storey County, Douglas County and Dayton Valley.

4-H Farm Days is now going on at Fuji Park and will end at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 18th. This is a great way for kids to learn where their food comes from.

Pat Wiggins, director of Animal Services for Carson City, has resigned after 10 years of service.

According to a news release by Carson City Health and Human Services, Wiggins is responsible for recently bringing the progressive “Trap Neuter Release” program for feral cats to Carson City and was a regular presenter at Capital City Farm Days, an annual educational program for students held at Fuji Park.
