Beautification Project: Community gardens throughout Lyon County and Highway 50
Hello, my name is CJ Gueldner. Several months ago I was driving down that Loneliest Highway that we all love from Mound House to Silver Springs when I caught sight of some adorable community garden style lawn art.
Then I got to thinking, “Hey, wouldn’t it be cute if all along Highway 50 between Mound House and Silver Springs that folks could create some festive little community gardens. Some could be herb gardens, some could be flower gardens, some could be rock gardens and some could be yard art. Check out the pics that I took from the cute yard off of Highway 50 and Rainbow Drive out near the Carson Plains.
So I stopped in to one of the shopping centers in Stagecoach to see if the owners would be interested in putting together a little garden that the community could enjoy and they said yes! I was so excited. We put a theme together and we are now in the process of getting the glass and tile pieces cut. Every time I went to the spot where the garden will be, I got more excited about how uplifting it would be to see different styles of gardens throughout Lyon County.
My hope is for folks to create little 6 X 6 ft gardens (or even larger if the business or homeowner wants it) that were visible from the Highway 50. I am hoping that in a couple of years the good cheer spreads throughout the Highway 50 drive. It would be just one more reason why to come to Nevada!
If any businesses or residences along Highway 50 would be interested in participating in the summer-long project, would you please give me a call at (775) 400-6443.
