UPDATE 5:54PM: One of the two suspects in an Oregon homicide late Saturday, Tevin Lafond of Carson City, is in Lyon County custody, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong. Suspect Kyle Steele remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Two men from Carson City believed to be connected to a homicide in Oregon are being sought by Washoe Tribal Police and Oregon authorities, with Carson City Sheriff's Office SWAT team providing backup.

Tornado Warning expires for Carson City, Douglas, Lake Tahoe; thunderstorms bring flooding

UPDATE 5:15PM: The Tornado Warning has expired. Flooding throughout Carson City is being reported as rush hours begins. William Street from Mills Park, College Parkway, Roop Street, and Saliman all experiencing flooding issues. Much of the heavy rain has now moved on though there are several lightning strikes still around Carson City.

On Thursday, Oct. 5, the Lyon County Board of Commissioners will be presented with safety concerns in reference to wild horses on Highway 50. Current code prohibits the watering of wild horses within 1,500 feet of a highway right of way.

A fire that began Tuesday afternoon southeast of Stagecoach in Lyon County exploded to 1,100 acres overnight, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
Lightning strikes bring wildfires throughout northern, western Nevada region
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 08/22/2017 - 6:48pmUPDATE: Lightning strikes on Tuesday afternoon may have contributed to several fires burning in the region, including the I-80 fire near Vista Boulevard in Sparks, the Micro Fire in central Lyon County southeast of Stagecoach, the Lyons Fire, which is in Douglas County but seen as far away as Dayton and Yerington. That fire as of early Wednesday morning was reported to be around 500 acres. It is located northeast of Sunrise Pass in the Pine Nut Mountains.

Fire crews respond to brush fire in area of Six Mile Canyon Road

The fire will be staffed throughout the night. Weather conditions are favorable and no structures or communities are threatened at this time. Six Mile Canyon Road remains closed and is patrolled by the Sheriff's Office to maintain safety.

UPDATE 2:47PM: A Carson City Fire Department brush unit was called up Friday afternoon to help fight the Six Mile Fire located in Storey County near Six Mile Canyon Road.

UPDATE 2:20PM: The Six Mile Fire has grown to 150 acres, burning in grass and brush, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. Multiple fire units are on the scene with air and ground support. According to Storey County's Facebook page, there are no evacuations in place and no structures threatened at this time.
West Nile Virus found in three western Nevada horses

All three horses were not vaccinated. Two of the horses were located in Lyon County, one in Dayton and one in Yerington, and the other in Washoe County.

Human West Nile virus case reported in Lyon County

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting the first human cases of West Nile virus in Lyon County for 2017. The Disease Control and Prevention Division at CCHHS oversees disease surveillance and investigations in Lyon County and is the agency monitoring the situation. The individuals confirmed to have WNV were diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness.
Open Pit Mine For Silver City, "Come Hell or High Water"

(CMI) released its quarterly report, which included a number of statements and topics important to Silver City. CMI’s ultimate goal of an open pit mine in Silver City remains unchanged. The company plans to begin the permitting process for the Dayton Mine by the end of the year. “We are marching toward Dayton feasibility come hell or high water,” according to company CEO Corrado DeGasperis, with production plans ready to go in two years.
