The Board of County Commissioners approved a two-year collective bargaining agreement Thursday with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Employees Association beginning now through June 30, 2019.

The Nevada State Fire Marshal is requesting the public’s help identifying a person of interest in connection with an arson attempt that happened Thursday to the North Lyon County Fire Department in Fernley.

Authorities have arrested Santiago "Sonny" Fernandez, 45, of Silver Springs in Lovelock Saturday morning, according to Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil.

UPDATE FRIDAY: The Carson City District Attorney’s Office, in its criminal complaint, argues the victim was repeatedly sexually abused from the ages of 10 to 12, when the suspect was between the ages 16 to 18 years of age.

The District Attorney’s Office cites Nevada Revised Statutes 171.083 and NRS 171.085 in its prosecution of the case, which can be found here.

A 23-year-old man was booked into jail Wednesday on two felony counts suspicion of sexual assault of a child under the age of 14, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The Lyon County Road Department has closed the Ramsey Weeks cutoff between Highway 50 and US 95A in Silver Springs to clean mud and debris from a flash flood that happened Monday afternoon.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to locate Santiago “Sonny” Fernandez, 45, of Silver Springs now wanted in an October 13, 2016 murder who may have staged his disappearance to avoid facing criminal charges.

Lyon County fire officials are reporting a brush fire burning in the Mound House area early Friday evening near the railroad bridge.

DAYTON, Nev. — The Nevada Department of Agriculture has been receiving reports of a parasitic plant called dodder in Lyon County. The parasite is not a Nevada noxious weed but is cause for concern as it can invade rangeland plants like sagebrush and agricultural crops like onions.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a 45-year-old Silver Springs man who has been missing since June 30 and whose life may be in danger.

Night in the Country officials announced Tuesday they will be changing the camper ingress and egress due to flood damage on Miller Lane in Yerington, Nev. West Goldfield Avenue will now be the main access to the campground entrances. The venue was not damaged during the flooding.

UPDATE 8:08PM: According to the Lyon County Facebook page, the Fort Churchill Fire near Dayton is 200 acres with 95 percent containment. No structures threatened or damaged. Power may be disrupted in the area.

Wildfires have been reported this evening in the Dayton and Silver Springs/Stagecoach areas, with Carson City Fire Department being asked to help as part of a mutual aid effort, according to dispatch.

The North Lyon County Fire Protection District has requested Lyon County Office of Emergency Management to issue an advisory to Fernley residents due to smoke in the area.

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 11:20AM: The Sedge Fire that started Tuesday night in the Brunswick Canyon area has burned around 15 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. The fire is burning in grass and brush on Bureau of Land Management land. There isn't word yet on any containment.

UPDATE 11:25PM: The fire burning in Brunswick Canyon is reported to be around 3 acres with moderate rate of spread in heavy fire fuels, according to the Carson City Fire Department on-duty battalion chief. Additional brush and type 3 fire engines have been ordered.

Carson City Fire Department was called Tuesday night to a brush fire burning in the Brunswick Canyon area east of Carson City. The fire was reported by several 911 callers right around the same time as a vehicle fire in the Mound House area near the Bunny Ranch.

With fire danger worsening around Western Nevada and the upcoming July 4 holiday period, law enforcement and fire agencies are warning people not to ignite fireworks. Not only are they potentially dangerous and could touch off wildfires, but they’re also illegal.

UPDATE 2:17PM: From Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch: Firefighters stopped forward progress of the Coleman Fire at around 10 acres. Resources are in the mop-up stage.

UPDATE 1:56PM: While the Kit Kat Fire burning east of Carson City near Mound House has been contained with 2.8 acres having burned, firefighters were called to the Silver Springs, Stagecoach area for a two-acre fire, called the Coleman Fire, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. The wildfire is burning near Coleman Drive. It was reported at 1:13 p.m.

A brush fire was reported burning east of Carson City near Mound House in Lyon County Saturday morning, prompting a response from Lyon County firefighters as well as Carson City Fire Department.

UPDATE 10PM: The Hunter Creek Fire is estimated to be around 250 acres with 35 percent containment, according to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. Air drops will resume Friday morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire agencies from around the region including a brush engine from the Carson City Fire Department were called Thursday afternoon to assist with the Hunter Creek Fire in west Reno.

Due to the recent flash flooding of the east side of Mason Valley, the Mason Valley Mosquito Abatement District is making preparations to aerial larvicide the large acreage involved.

Residents near the West Walker River in Smith Valley may have to evacuate given the rising water, officials said early Wednesday evening.

A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday in the 400 block of North Carson Street for a felony fugitive from justice warrant issued in March out of El Dorado County, Calif.

Lyon County has closed Miller Lane in Yerington due to flooding issues. In the past 48 hours Lyon County has discovered the road barriers moved and a county vehicle damaged, officials said.

The Road Department has filed a report with Lyon County Sheriff's Office and may be installing video surveillance until the road can be open, said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page.

With hot weather settling into the Carson City region, the chance of afternoon thunderstorms will increase through the early part of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Fire crews from around the region are responding to a brush fire that sparked near Boomtown west of Reno Sunday, according to fire officials.

Turn on the air conditioner and crank up the swamp coolers: Temperatures will be hot this weekend into early next week for much of western Nevada, Carson City and the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

Lane closures will take place this Friday, June 16 on Highway 50 in Dayton as the Nevada Department of Transportation completes the last phase of repairs to a roadway depression, known among many as the "Dayton Dip."
