With river levels expected to rise in the weeks and months ahead, the Lyon County Board of Commissioners approved a declaration of emergency on Thursday for all of Lyon County in preparation for potential flooding from spring and summer snow melt run off.

Gov. Brian Sandoval toured the South Dayton Retention Pond near East Dayton on Tuesday following alerts from the National Weather Service that indicated the area may be compromised due to heavy rainfall.

Sandoval was joined by Lyon County Manager Jeff Page, Lyon County Commissioner Ken Gray, and State Water Engineer Jason King.

UPDATE 5:05PM: Lyon County officials advise the immediate threat from the retention basin is over. Water is still flowing in the drainages but no property or structures are threatened at this time. No evacuations were ordered and there are no reported injuries or fatalities.

Lyon County Manager Jeff Page recently announced to the Board of Commissioners his recommendations to reduce the effects of flash flooding and river flooding in Central Lyon County.

Another atmospheric river is headed our way today through Tuesday bringing periods of torrential rain and strong winds to Carson City, the valley areas and several feet of snow to the Sierra and Lake Tahoe, according to the National Weather Service.

A powerful winter storm associated with a strong atmospheric river will bring gusty winds and very heavy precipitation to the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas and deep snow to the upper Sierra tonight through late Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Deputies were called early Saturday morning to a stabbing that happened during an argument in the area of Bel Aire Circle, a Carson City Sheriff’s Office sergeant said.

A male in his 20s was stabbed by a male suspect, who remains at large.

Miller Lane from Highway 95A to Aizzi Lane and Aizzi Lane to Pete Hendrichs Road in Mason Valley are closed due to low level flooding from the Walker River. Lyon County anticipates the closure to be in effect until at least Monday morning.

CARSON CITY – The Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors recently announced their 2017 President and Board of Directors. The president for this year is Steve Bohler, owner of Pinion Pines Realty, based in Wellington, NV.

The gauge height of the Carson River is beginning to drop. We can expect to see high flows for a few days as the flood plain upstream begins to recede back into the river. We may get additional precipitation later in the week.

Lyon County Road Department crews continue to monitor the Carson River and drainage ditches in the Dayton area and other parts of eastern Lyon County, Lyon County Manager Jeffery Page.

UPDATE 320PM: As of 3:15 p.m. there were 318 customers without power in Carson City, 5,493 without power in Douglas County, 172 customers in Lyon County and 1,760 customers in Washoe County. Six customers were without power in Storey County.

High winds from the current storm system have caused multiple outages Thursday throughout the Carson City, Carson Valley and Washoe Valley areas, according to NV Energy.

UPDATE 3:42PM: Opal Avenue, Topaz Avenue and Tahoe Avenue in Silver Springs are currently impassible. Crews cannot do any repair work until the water stops flowing.

Lyon County is experiencing localized flooding ​throughout Central Lyon County. The following roads are closed by Lyon County:

​— River Road at Cardelli Road
— Fort Churchill Road from Riverview Elementary School to the Nevada Automotive Test Center
— Break-A-Heart from Highway 50 to Fort Churchill Road

Carson City Public Works crews are mitigating flood prone areas Tuesday and will address concerns accordingly. The storm drain system is operating at capacity, resulting in water in roadways and localized intersection flooding. When the storm drains are at maximum capacity water can be observed flowing outwardly.

This is a normal response. All personnel are at their full ability assisting citizens.

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 7:19 p.m. in the 3600 block of North Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, hit and run causing property damage and failure to maintain a lane of traffic, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A 39-year-old Fernley man was sentenced to prison for his actions following an August 2016 high speed chase in Fernley where he rammed his vehicle into patrols cars.
