June gaming revenue from Carson City area casinos increased by 3.16 percent over the same time as last year, according to figures released Thursday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday signed a disaster declaration due to the Preacher Fire seven miles southeast of Gardnerville.

After five years in the 4 Paws 4-H Dog Club, Morgan Craghill, 14, had her first opportunity to compete in an actual dog show this week as part of the Carson City Fair at Fuji Park.

The Carson City Fair gathers steam today: they’ll be setting up the carnival, judging the items in the exhibit hall, and the 4-H kids are showing off what their dogs can do. It’s a play-doh afternoon at the Carson City Library, in addition to their weekly Pajama Story time on Tuesday evenings. The Carson Nugget is hosting a job fair to fill a plethora of positions in their restaurants and on the casino floor.

UPDATE TUESDAY 12:42PM: The Preacher Fire has burned 7,651 acres, according to the Incident Management Team that flew over the fire Tuesday morning to assess the situation.
Douglas County Sheriff Office and Nevada Highway Patrol are working with Nevada Department of Transportation to update the reader boards along Highway 395 from China Springs to Minden warning drivers of low visibility due to smoke.

The Preacher Fire burning in the Pine Nut Mountains has swelled to more than 1,000 acres, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. Douglas County has initiated recommended evacauations of areas at the east end of Pine Nut Road including Fred’s Street, Sandoval, Taildragger, Bluebird, and Bar-J Roads as well as the Spirit Ranch Area including Blue Sage Road, Badger Lane, Robinson Road, and Lena Lane. In addition, the Washoe Tribal Police are evacuating the Bodie Flats area in the vicinity of Courtland Avenue.

Fire crews from around the region responded to lightning sparked fires early Monday morning to the south, north and east of Carson City. Thunderstorms are expected through Tuesday possibly into Wednesday for northeastern California and western Nevada.

It won’t be lions, and tigers, and bears taking over Fuji Park; the Carson City Fair is more about bunnies, alpacas, pigs and chickens. It begins today with a 4-H dog show focusing on obedience and rally. You’ll have to wait until Wednesday for the carnival, but you’ll be rewarded for your patience with one dollar rides opening night, courtesy of Carson City Toyota. Boy Scouts of America Troop 33 will host its 4th annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 12, 2017 at Fuji Park in Carson City.

A whirlwind of a weekend is on its way and you may as well get it off to an incredible start. Stop by Living the Good Life and celebrate their third anniversary with an outdoor concert featuring Soul Connection. Telegraph Square has a stage set up for the Taste of Downtown tomorrow, so the Carson High Class of ’77 is hosting a street party with Prey for Son tonight. I’m sending good thoughts to those in the California fire zones: with as bad as the smoke is here, I can only imagine how bad their eyes burn. Free ice cream and a concert featuring the Capital City Community Band can be found tonight at the First United Methodist Church on King Street. The weekend is inching closer, and bringing with it one of Carson City’s favorite events – The Taste of Downtown. The annual fundraiser for the Advocates to End Domestic Violence brings everyone downtown for samplings from our local restaurants, live music, and a good time had by all. A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday night in the area of Curry and Robinson streets for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.

The Relief Society local women’s organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its ninth annual clothing drive to assist families in the Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities to obtain clothes for school.

The third annual Morning in Nevada PAC Basque Fry at Corley Ranch in Gardnerville will be headlined this year by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt announced Friday.

Organizers of the Carson City Fair are seeking volunteers to help with a variety of duties.
“We have lots of positions available,” said Lindsay Chichester, chairwoman of the Carson City Fair Board. “We have everything from helping with the youth livestock show to assisting the judging of the static exhibits.”

A woman arrested Tuesday for a gross misdemeanor drug charge now faces four felony charges including giving deputies the wrong name to avoid prosecution, two counts possession of credit cards not belonging to her and a probation violation warrant, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team arrested a 24-year-old man on felony drug charges after a traffic stop for driving with a broken headlight, a Carson City sheriff’s sergeant said.
