Carson City arrests: Woman jailed for drug offense faces new felony charges
A woman arrested Tuesday for a gross misdemeanor drug charge now faces four felony charges including giving deputies the wrong name to avoid prosecution, two counts possession of credit cards not belonging to her and a probation violation warrant, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Jonette Lenee Bessette, 31, of Sun Valley was booked on the charges Wednesday after detectives learned the identity of the woman who was booked Tuesday was not the name she gave officers at the time of booking.
When she was confronted about the name she admitted she gave her friend’s name to officers at the time of the arrest because, she said, “I thought I could get away with it,” according to the arrest report. Bessette acknowledged she had an active parole and probation warrant.
A search warrant was requested by deputies and granted by a Carson City judge to look through the evidence bag of the woman’s belongings that were collected by deputies at the time of the arrest. Inside the bag deputies confiscated an American Express Card, a VISA debit card and two casino promotion cards. All four cards had the name of the woman Bessette originally gave deputies at the time of the arrest.
Bail: $20,000 and a “no bail” hold for the parole and probation violation.
