Douglas County commissioners sign Preacher Fire disaster declaration
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday signed a disaster declaration due to the Preacher Fire seven miles southeast of Gardnerville.
The fire started as a result of lightning on Monday morning, July 24, 2017. The fire is currently estimated at 4,651 acres at the time of this release and is being managed by Sierra Front Type 3 Incident Management Team with support from East Fork Fire Protection District and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The declaration was done based on the current potential threat the fire brings to structures and the community. The declaration has been submitted to the State of Nevada and will start the process to request additional resources required to more effectively respond to an emergency.
“The safety and well-being of Douglas County remains our priority while we continue to try and stabilize this fire,” said County Manager Larry Werner. “Douglas County is being proactive by initiating this declaration by securing our access any additional resources or recovery we may need.”
Evacuations have been lifted. Pinenut Road #1 and #2 will remain restricted to the general public.
