Carson City Fair seeks volunteers to staff July 24-30 events at Fuji Park
Organizers of the Carson City Fair are seeking volunteers to help with a variety of duties.
“We have lots of positions available,” said Lindsay Chichester, chairwoman of the Carson City Fair Board. “We have everything from helping with the youth livestock show to assisting the judging of the static exhibits.”
The Carson City Fair Board, a partnership of nonprofits joining together, is working to bring a traditional fair back to the capital city. It will run July 24-July 30 at Fuji Park.
“It’s a nice way for people to reconnect with a county fair,” Chichester said. “It’s a good way to tap into our agricultural roots and the importance of youth participation. It’s a good, family event.”
The fair will kick off will the dog show and static display on July 24.
The dog show — featuring 4-H and FFA members exhibiting the dogs’ agility, obedience, rally and showmanship — will run 8 a.m.-2 p.m. July 24 and and 8 a.m.-noon July 25.
“The dog shows are a lot of fun,” Chichester said. “You get to see all the work the kids put into it, and it’s neat to see the relationships the kids have built with their dogs. It’s also entertaining, because dogs are going to be dogs.”
The Grand Opening Ceremony will be 3 p.m. July 26 followed by the soft opening of the carnival at 6 that evening.
“We encourage families to come out and join us for the opening ceremonies,” Chichester said.
The highlight of the opening ceremonies will be the antique tractor parade. The antique tractors will be on display July 28 and 29 with a parade at 11 a.m. July 28 and tractor pulls at noon. The tractor parade will be 10 a.m. July 29 and the pulls at 11 a.m.
“The coolest part is that all of the tractor events are completely free,” Chichester said. “For a family, it doesn’t get better than that.”
The fifth annual Bulls, Broncs and Barrels will return to Carson City as entertainment on July 28 and 29. Tickets for the show are available at Benson’s Feed, 2750 Highway 50 East; J T Basque Bar & Dining Room, 1426 Highway 395, Gardnerville; or the Carson City Culture & Tourism Authority, 716 N. Carson St. or visitcarsoncity.com.
