Meet local artist, Carol Brown, at the reception celebrating her work in Comma Coffee’s Backseat Gallery. UPDATE 955PM: From Douglas County: The Topaz Fire is in mop up status at the present time. The fire burned 8 acres within the Topaz Subdivision just south of the Topaz Lodge in Southern Douglas County.
Highway 395 was closed during initial fire attack operations. The highway is now open but motorist are urged to proceed with caution through the area. One out building was damaged in the fire and no structures were lost. Approximately 30 to 40 homes were threatened at one time. Volunteer evacuations are still in place.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its ninth annual clothing drive to assist families in the Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities to obtain clothes for school. The annual event provides gently used clothing free of charge.

The event focuses on school-aged children K thru 12. We invite families to pick up free clothing for all age groups to prepare for school on Saturday, July 29, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The church is located at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, Nevada, just south of Carson High School.

If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. Congratulations on surviving yet another school year, it's officially summer. Celebrate with a family outing to Bower's Mansion and stick around for some live music by Acoustic Solution. Watch out for motorcycles, now that the Spring Rally has rumbled into town, the bikes will be out in full force. Tonight, head over to the Fandango to enjoy the Trey Stone Trio or grab a Hawaiian shirt and join in the Beach Party Karaoke fun at Carson Lanes.

The Carson Valley site of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada Torch Club is holding a car wash at the Stratton Center, 1532 U.S. Highway 395 in Gardnerville on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Wednesday that the Northern Nevada Development Authority and the Nye County Coalition will receive a total of $1.2 million in federal grant funds for brownfield site revitalization efforts.

April gaming revenue at Carson City area casinos climbed more than 6 percent compared to April 2016 numbers, according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Hold onto those hats, Carson City, summer is off like a shot.

During occasional heavy rainstorms, such as the ones that hit western Nevada this winter, stormwater can cause erosion on residential properties. University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, in partnership with GreenACTnv, will offer a free presentation in Gardnerville on how to prepare landscapes to reduce erosion hazards and increase the potential for storm runoff to soak into soils.

A 22-year-old man was arrested Friday in the area of Mills Park for felony suspicion of robbery after allegedly threatening juveniles and stealing their speaker box, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Western Nevada College is graduating one of its largest classes ever, with 551 students graduating with 592 degrees and certificates during a commencement ceremony today, Monday, May 22 at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Carson City.

It’s going to be gorgeous all weekend long, and there are plenty of ways to take advantage of the sunny weather.
