The Foundation for Cason City Parks and Recreation announces its Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 15 at the Wungnema House in Mills Park.

Another picture-perfect Carson City day awaits as we head into Monday, May 13, 2019. We're looking at mostly sunny skies with daytime highs in the low 80s. And then by midweek, another round of showers looks likely, which will help cool us off. Activities for Monday include art demonstrations and showings, presentations and more. Enjoy.

Good morning Carson City! It's going to be another beautiful day in the capital city, with highs of 78 and lows of 44. On the docket today we've got a canned food drive to help the Ron Wood Center, a volunteer day to restore the Mills Park train, a Mother's Day Plant Sale, and more! Here's what we've got going on for Saturday:

Press Coffee and Waffles is Carson City’s newest mobile eatery, and will be hitting the streets sometime this month to serve up two of America's favorite breakfast items to the capital city and surrounding areas.

Press Coffee and Waffles is stationed out of a vintage 1960s food cart. The cart in and of itself is eye catching, with rounded curves in an example of classic retro-futurism, which, said co-owner Aaron Gorton, is one of only 150 ever made.

CARSON CITY – Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation (AADF), a Carson City-based nonprofit that honors U.S. military veterans with free Dream Flights, is adding a re-stored 1943 Stearman biplane to its fleet, thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local community in Wisconsin.

The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Heading into Thursday, May 9, 2019 we're looking at a few showers and partly sunny skies around Carson City. The event lineup features the RSVP Spring Celebration and Carnival kickoff and family night at Mills Park, a Healthy Communities event in Silver Springs, CASA volunteer information hour workshop, an afternoon hike along the Ash Canyon trail, art demonstrations, live music and more. Every child needs a hero, but abused children need superheroes! Court Appointed Special Advocates, also known as CASA, will hold information hours on Thursday, May 9 and again Thursday, May 16 in Carson City.

Come get your questions answered first and then hang out afterward as new volunteer training will begin. See first hand how the organization works. Both meetings begin at 5 p.m.

Blu Jaz will perform this Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at Bella Fiore Wines in Carson City. The four-piece band has quite a following. Blu Jaz performa a steady diet of blues and jazz coupled with a few dance upbeat songs.

They're becoming somewhat a fixture at Bella Fiore Wines, located at 224 S. Carson Street in the McFadden Plaza. The band consists of Myke Smith, on saxes, Bradley Harris, guitarist and harmonica, Paul Bonaldi, on drums and Tim Goldsmith on bass.

The capital city will celebrate Tinseltown, classic cinema and raise money for Carson City school art programs at the 5th annual Hollywood Gala on Saturday, May 18 with the theme "A Star is Born" hosted by Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

Heading into Tuesday, May 7, 2019 we are looking at another picture perfect day for a morning or evening stroll with Carson City's own Muscle Powered and a bevy of events, including a chamber digital marketing workshop, Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City Chapter meeting and open house, family movie and craft night at the Carson City Library, a filmmaking discussion followed by a showing of the classic "12 Angry Men" at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall and more. Kicking off its 2019 season, V&T Railway will hold a special Mother’s Day train on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12. Guests will experience a 24-mile round-trip ride through the historic Comstock, departing Carson City (Eastgate Depot) at 10 a.m. and will arrive in Virginia City at approximately 11:30 a.m., before returning to Carson at 4:15 p.m.

The beasts of Africa will be highlighted during a wildlife photography presentation to the Carson City Leisure Hour Club on Wednesday, May 15. Presented by Patrick Pevey and Carol Grenier for the first time, club members will share in the experiences of seven trips to Africa.

On the books today we have a Tour of Carson City hosted by Muscle Powered as a part of National Bike Month, a dog agility trial, art showings, a family book reading at the Carson City Library and more.

Meet at Brunswick Canyon Road and Deer Run road, 1 mile south of Highway 50 East, Carson City. Join Muscle Powered as we walk along the very actively-flowing river. Kingfishers, hawks, and waterfowl are often seen along this stretch of the river. Hike distance will range between 2-4 miles, depending on trail condition. Water and closed-toes shoes are REQUIRED. Hat and sunscreen recommended.

Consort Canzona, a select group of instrumentalists and singers specializing in early music, will present two Hassler & Company concerts this spring on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 4, at 4 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 (just south of Best Buy) in Carson City. Director is Gary Schwartz. Admission is free, donations welcome.

There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. Join us on our free leader-led hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet in the dirt area opposite Murphy Drive on Combs Canyon Road to carpool to the trailhead. Water and sturdy closed-toe shoes required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended.

Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. All hikes are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more.
