Muscle Powered Trash Mob cleaned up at East Silver Saddle Ranch on Saturday

We met in the large parking area at East Silver Saddle Ranch on Sierra Vista Lane and spread out to clear trash between the Carson River and Sierra Vista Lane. Things have improved a lot since the improvements have been put in by Carson City Public Works and Parks, Recreation, and Open Space but we were still able to find about 360 pounds of trash.

The Carson City Chapter of Nevada Raider Nation will host its inaugural Draft Day Party from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Espolon Grill y Tequileria in Moundhouse.
All Raiders fans are welcome to attend, there is no entry fee. Drawings will be held each hour for Raiders items.
Applications to join the Carson City Chapter of Nevada Raider Nation will be available for those who want to join. Membership is $20 per person.
Espolon is located at 10115 US Highway 50, on the south side of the roadway. Espolon will also have their menu and drinks available for purchase.

If you’re going to watch the sheep, leash your dogs or leave them at home

Our favorite sheep friends are working hard to reduce cheatgrass for fire season, and while people are permitted to go and coo over how adorable they are, multiple people have been also bringing their furry friends without leashing them, which scares the sheep and makes it difficult to perform their important work.

Country Dancing Comes to Piper's Opera House

Country dancing is coming to Virginia City on Thursday, April 25 with a free community event at Pipers Opera House. The Carson Lanes Country Kickers, a dance group that meets and dances weekly at Carson Lanes’ Eleventh Frame Lounge, will bring their skill, enthusiasm and fun to the first, in what hopefully will be the first of many country dance nights on the spring-loaded dance floor at Piper’s.

The Sky’s The Limit: Carson City high schoolers learn science of hot air ballooning

CARSON CITY — Science students from Mr. Michael Reynolds class at Carson High School (CHS) will have an elevating opportunity to go Up Up and Away…well, err…tethered, Tuesday morning, April 23. Karalyn Mumm, owner and commercial pilot of the balloon “Citrus in the Sky,” will provide tethered hot air balloon rides on the front lawn at the high school.

Carson Valley student places first in statewide, 2nd in national radon poster contest

Carson Valley Middle School student Ana Marquez, from Minden, placed second in the National Radon Poster Contest, after taking home first place in the Nevada Radon Poster Contest. She competed against student winners from 10 other states and will receive $300 for her poster, “Radon: Test Your Home Now.”

Schools in Dayton go on voluntary lockdown after report of man in park near school with a rifle

UPDATE 1:05PM: According to Lyon County Sheriff's Office Lt. Abel Ortiz, the man who was believed to be carrying a rifle, was instead carrying a pellet gun and had been shooting squirrels at a park near the elementary school. Lt. Ortiz said the man knew that he had made a mistake and was embarrassed for creating the situation. The lieutenant added that the schools did what they were supposed to and there was no threat.

UPDATE 12:35PM: Here's the latest from the Lyon County School District via Facebook. "The precautionary Lock-In at all three Dayton area schools were lifted as of 12:13 p.m. As a result of the prompt actions of law enforcement, school operations have proceeded as normal with all students and staff safe and secure."

Schools in the Dayton area went on voluntary lockdown late Wednesday morning after a report of someone driving around the Dayton High School campus in a pickup with a rifle in the truck, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said. The voluntary lockdown was a precaution, said Page who contacted Lyon County sheriff's office officials.
