Friday, Dec. 8: Things to do in Carson City and beyond

We’ve got one heck of a weekend on its way, and it’s starting right now. Start off with a trip to the Governor’s Mansion with something non-perishable for the annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive: you won’t even have to leave the warmth of your vehicle. Break a leg to Wild Horse Children’s Theater and to the Proscenium Players. Both troupes begin the run of their winter plays tonight at the Brewery Arts Center. It’s a Christmas Shopping Extravaganza at Fuji Park. You’ll find a plethora of vendors, crafters, and artisans waiting to help make your holiday shopping hassle-free.

• — 25th annual Channel 2 News Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive: Drop off points are the Governor’s Mansion in Carson City or the Carson Valley Inn in Minden, by the RV Registration Booth (6am-6pm, volunteers welcome; cash/checks, non-perishable food products and disposable household items i.e. toilet paper and paper towels appreciated; music, emergency vehicles, service men and women, a blood drive, and Santa at the Minden location)
• — Nevada Art Council’s traveling exhibit, “Making A Mark” in the Western Nevada College Main Gallery in the Bristlecone Building (8am-9pm)
• — ‘Wintering Over,’ mixed media by Las Vegas artist Andreana Donahue in the OXS Gallery at the Nevada Arts Council: 716 N. Carson St. (8am-5pm)

• — Community Craft Service Project at the Carson Mall Craft Fair, the (11am-5pm; we are creating holiday stockings for Richards Crossing, a festive paper place mat for Meals on Wheels recipients, and writing cards for past and present service men and women serving our country.
