Monday's Democratic Luncheon will kick off Earth Week with a presentation by Clifford Banuelos, Tribal-State Environmental Liaison for the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada (ITCN) with the State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP). In that role he works with bureaus under NDEP and the Tribes of Nevada to coordinate and consult on environmental projects and concerns. He also works with the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), which NDEP falls under.

Students from all four classes recently nominated Carson High School Winterfest candidates for 2021 Winterfest week, Feb. 1-5, where both a King and Queen will be crowned. The theme, Destination Unknown, was decided upon; since students are not allowed to experience the vacations they love, they are bringing their vacation destinations to CHS.

Nevada Humanities has announced the book selections for its statewide 2021 Nevada Reads program. Nevada Reads will feature two memoirs — Miracle Country: A Memoir by Kendra Atleework, and World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments by Aimee Nezhukumatathil.

Western Nevada College has revamped its Continuing Education program and is now geared toward providing career training and professional development, as well as offering a variety of personal enrichment classes like it has in the past.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office sergeant who was injured in a Dec. 20 shooting is returning to his Carson City home from the hospital today, Tuesday with a full law enforcement escort.

An outside investigator found no policy violations but room for improved communication after reviewing events surrounding a rural Nevada library’s draft diversity statement that drew the county sheriff’s ire and sparked protests and national media attention.

On our walk today I was commenting to my husband “I can’t believe two pine trees could lose that many needles!” This was after I spent a number of hours raking the needles up from the driveway. My next question was “Can I compost pine needles?”

I am writing today to vehemently oppose the removal of flashing lights on the highway that inform drivers a light is about to change.

The general consensus of our community with whom I've spoken to seem to agree that this would be a disaster.

The Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce nine student winners of the 19th Annual American Citizen Essay Contest. Each winner will be recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 24, and will received the following cash prizes: First Place: $80, Second Place: $30 and Third Place: $15. Grade level winners include the following.

Carson High School's NJROTC Drill and Color Guard team competed in their first ever ‘virtual’ drill competition hosted by University of North Carolina ROTC program. The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. A Thanksgiving Turkey Drop for families in need will be held Friday at Max Casino. The holiday movie premieres of “Feliz NaviDAD” and “Once Upon A Main Street” on Saturday will feature different venues in Carson City. Be a part of bringing hope by voting on contestant art pieces to decide the “Social Media Fave” in the Donor Network West annual art contest. Four Carson High students, Anthony Larry, Connor Lampert, Danielle Van Dusen, and Sarai Jauregui Rivas made the first cut, though all of CHS Graphic Design Instructor Patricia Ababio’s students submitted entries.

The fourth annual Carson Valley Turkey Trot begins Friday and will be held virtually throughout the month of November. The Capital City Arts Initiative and Western Nevada College present "Metallum Terrae" an exhibition by Kyle Karrasch in the college’s Bristlecone Gallery, 2201 W College Parkway, Carson City now through Dec. 17, 2020. The gallery is open to the public, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The next Carson City School Board meeting will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Among the items for discussion are a report on return to school measures, a possible bond resolution, activities and summer projects.

Judicial candidates Ozzie Fumo and Bonnie Bulla will be the featured speakers at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon. Fumo, Nevada State Assemblyman for District 21 in Las Vegas, is running for Nevada Supreme Court, Seat D. Bulla, who was appointed to Department 3 of the Nevada Court of Appeals by Governor Steve Sisolak in February 2019, is running to retain that seat.
