Carson City area events and happenings for Tuesday, Sept. 25
As we head into our first full week of fall, sunny skies and a cool evening are on tap for this Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018. Among today's events are a morning walk and evening hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a chamber luncheon that focuses on Nevada Ballot Question 3 and the showing of the film "Westward the Women" by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

— Tuesday Morning Walk to Mayor's Park hosted by Muscle Powered, 8 a.m. Join us for our weekly one hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors in Carson City! Meet on the corner of Koontz Lane and Center Drive. Water and closed-toe shoes required All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths.
— Tuesday Evening Conditioning Hike to Clear Creek Trail Upper End hosted by Muscle Powered, 5:30 p.m. Come out and join us for free hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors! Meet at Highway 50 Park and Ride where we will carpool to the starting point off of Golf Course Road. Hikes are 4-6 miles in length with an elevation gain, sometimes over 500 feet and usually on single track trail. Evening hikes are usually 1½ hours or more duration. Water and study boots or athletic shoes required. Hat and sunscreen recommended.
— Carson City Chamber luncheon Tuesday to focus on Nevada Ballot Question 3. 11: 30 a.m. Gold Dust West. Ballot Question 3 is receiving a lot of air time from both sides, convincing you to vote for or against this complex initiative that would amend the Declaration of Rights within the Nevada Constitution should the voters vote in favor of a competitive retail energy market. The Carson City Chamber will be addressing this controversial issue at its Sept. 25 Soup's On luncheon at the Gold Dust West, 2171 East William Street to which the interested public is invited.
— Carson City Classic Cinema Club showing of 'Westward the Women' to feature director's son as guest. 5:30 p.m. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents "Westward the Women" with special guest William Wellman Jr., the son of the film's director, William Wellman, on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 West King Street. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. discussion and trivia at 6 p.m. and film at 7 p.m. General Admission $5; Student and Senior (55-plus) $3.
— Town Hall Tuesdays with the Candidates, 6 p.m. Town Hall Tuesdays with Tina Davis-Hersey, candidate for Nevada Senate District 16, and special guest candidates weekly. Come to beautiful downtown Carson and talk about what matters to you in this very important election. 700 West Telegraph Street.
— Grow Your Own, Nevada, the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Grow Your Own, Nevada! Live from Reno via video conference in Carson City, 6 p.m. Program presents four classes to help Nevadans get on the path to more sustainable, local, healthy living by growing and preserving more of their own food. Tuesday's class is cover crops for the home gardener. The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Carson City office is located at 2621 Northgate Ln., No. 15.

— Daily through September, Muscle Powered is holding a membership drive to recruit new members. All new and renewing members in the month of September will be entered in a drawing to win a Gregory Hiking Day Pack.
Muscle Powered works to make Carson City healthier for all citizens and safer and more accessible for bicycling and walking through education and advocacy, the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian friendly infrastructure, and developing and maintaining recreational trails throughout the city. Muscle Powered is also responsible for organized weekly walks, hikes and bike rides, on and off road, throughout Carson City. Go here to learn more and sign up.
— Student Art Exhibition: The Wind Calls, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) announces it’s exhibition, The Wind Calls featuring nine University of Nevada, Reno, students’ work. The free exhibition is available to the public through October 9, 2018, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – noon and 1:00 – 4:00 pm. It is held at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St., Carson City.
— The Wind Calls includes work by Mahedi Anjuman, Nicki Bracco, Mark Combs, Teal Francis, Hannah Huntley, Gwaylon Leaf, Frances Melhop, Ally Messer, and Carla Miller. The artists used a wide variety of art media including mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and photography to make their art and comments on contemporary life and society.
— The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its exhibition, "Jenny Raven: The Creative Growth Years 1979 - 1984" with artwork by artist Jenny Raven in the city’s Community Center Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public through October 18, 2018. The Sierra Room is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents “Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth" at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition, with art by 17 artists, will be in the gallery Monday through Friday until Sept. 27, 2018. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
