Thursday, Feb. 26: Things to do in Carson City

Event Date:
February 26, 2015 (All day)

Once upon a time in Nevada, a Reno tailor named Jacob Davis wrote a letter to Levi Strauss about his pocket rivets, and thus the blue jean was born. Coincidentally, today is Strauss’ birthday. Once upon a time in Nevada, Buffalo Bill Cody was just a kid riding for the Pony Express. It’s his birthday, too. Fun fact: Cuba Crutchfield, a trick-rope cowboy with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West, is buried in Carson City’s Lone Mountain Cemetery. Once upon a time in Nevada, a man was shot in Reno. Happy birthday to Johnny Cash; I’ve include a link to Folsom Prison Blues. Once upon a time there was an amazing tech at Lone Mountain Vet, happy birthday Aubrie.

Celebrate all the February birthdays with local favorite, Trippin King Snakes, at Carson Cigar Company tonight. St. Mary’s Art Center, formerly St. Mary’s Hospital, in Virginia City offers up haunted Nevada history with their monthly Historical Ghost Night Tour. I can’t promise you’ll see a ghost, but you’ll hear some good stories. Good stories can also be found at the Nevada State Museum as they host their Francis Humphrey Lecture tonight. Hear Stan Paher talk about the 'Spirit of the Silver State."

Speaking of stories, it’s National Tell a Fairy Tale Day. And they all lived happily ever after.
