Here is what's happening on your Monday:
— Carson City Parks and Rec high school basketball program signups. All day. Don’t forget that the Carson City Parks and Recreation High School Basketball League registration is still open and will be through Monday, Feb. 25, 2019. Carson City Parks and Recreation offers two different divisions for this league, a Boys Division and a Girls Division. This league was created to allow any and all high school students that enjoy the sport of basketball the opportunity to play with their peers in a controlled yet competitive environment with schedule practice times and officiated games. This league is open to freshman through senior, all of which will go through a “tryout” or “warmup” where they will be assessed on their skills and then teams will be selected by Carson City Park and Recreation staff and the volunteer coaches. Once teams are selected all teams will have several practices followed up by a 10 game season plus the 4th Annual End of the Season, one day, single elimination tournament in which prizes will be given to the winning team. Practices and game times will take place twice a week with times and days of the week varying depending on division. To register you can do so online at www.carson.org/ccpr or over the counter at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC), Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For any question or more details on the league or any of our other programs please call the MAC at 775-887-2339. ONGOING:
— Chinese woodcutters exhibit debuts at Nevada State Museum in Carson City. In their heydays in the boom-and-bust mining culture of the late 1800s, the mining camps of Aurora, Nevada and nearby Bodie, California had a combined population of nearly 20,000. Keeping the thriving camps supplied was an ongoing challenge. A little-known piece of history of the two boomtowns — the role of the Chinese woodcutters who supplied firewood and charcoal to the camps — is the subject of a major new exhibit at the Nevada State Museum. “Fueling the Boom: Chinese Woodcutters in the Great Basin,” opens Friday in the museum’s South Gallery. The Nevada State Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, free for museum members and children 17 and younger. Parking is available in the free public lot on the west side of Curry St. behind the museum.

Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that is colorless, odorless and tasteless. It comes from the ground and can accumulate in homes, raising the risk of lung cancer. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates 21,000 Americans die each year from radon-caused lung cancer, killing more people than secondhand smoke, drunk driving and house fires. For more information, call the Radon Hotline at 1-888-RADON10 (1-888-723-6610) or visit the Nevada Radon Education Program website at www.RadonNV.com.
