Man jailed after theft at Carson City liquor store ends with vehicle chase into Reno
A California man was arrested after leading Nevada Highway Patrol and Washoe County deputies on a vehicle chase that began after a theft at a Carson City liquor store.
Dominic Gonzalez, 23, from Newark, Calif., is currently being held at the Washoe County Jail on felony suspicion of possession of stolen property as well as reckless driving, driving without a driver’s license, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, failure to give information at accident and failure to obey a peace officer, said NHP Trooper Duncan Dauber.
On Monday at approximately 5:04 p.m., the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office notified Nevada Highway Patrol dispatch that they were in an active pursuit involving a silver Nissan sedan that was involved in a larceny case from Carson City in which a liquor store reported the theft of several bottles of liquor.
NHP troopers joined with Washoe County Sheriff’s Department as the Nissan traveled northbound on Interstate 580 from the south end of Reno. Both agencies dropped off pursuit as the vehicle attained speeds upwards of 100 mph. As the Nissan continued northbound on I-580, it struck a vehicle causing a property damage crash in the area of Meadowood Mall.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office helicopter (RAVEN) kept a visual on the vehicle as it made its way to the Grand Sierra Resort parking lot off of Mill Street where the two male occupants of the vehicle fled on foot.
Both males proceeded to run into an entrance on the east side of the Grand Sierra Resort where one of the males was located and placed into custody by the Nevada Highway Patrol. The other male was initially not located but was later observed by GSR security fleeing the scene in a maroon passenger car with silver rims that had arrived to pick him up. The individual still at large is reported as a white male adult last seen wearing a black shirt or zipper pullover and blue jeans.
Located inside of the abandoned Nissan were various items to include sporting goods and alcohol that are all believed to be stolen.
