Mental health and crime to be subject of Carson City Chamber Soup’s On!
With the recent school shooting in Florida, the timing of the next Carson City Chamber Soup’s On! luncheon scheduled at the Gold Dust West on Feb. 27 at 11:30 a.m. couldn’t be timelier.
With 8 school shootings already in 2018 and continued threats since this last shooting, school districts and law enforcement must be even more vigilant.
Mass shootings are not just confined to schools, and, though citizens think it could never happen in their community, it does. Carson City experienced a tragic mass shooting on Sept. 6, 2011 when a mentally disturbed gunman entered the IHOP restaurant killing five and injuring seven.
Sheriff Kenny Furlong and Juvenile Services Chief Ali Banister will discuss the relationship between mental health and crime and how they are working together to keep our community as safe as possible.
Reservations must be received by noon on Monday, Feb. 26. Cost is $16 and includes an all-you-can-eat lunch. Call the Chamber at 882-1565 or reserve online here. The public is invited.
