International Walk to School Day is being celebrated Wednesday around Carson City. The day is celebrated globally and involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, it has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration each October.

More than 50 animal shelters and rescue groups participated in Nevada’s large free pet adoption event, Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days. Nevada Raider Nation - Carson City Chapter will host a game watch of the Oakland Raiders vs Chicago Bears at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at Jimmy G's, 301 N. Carson St., in Carson City.

The Carson City IHOP on South Carson Street has officially shut its doors and the building is set to be demolished. At this time, IHOP corporate said they have no plans to reopen another IHOP chain in Carson City, but they do have three locations in Reno and one in South Lake Tahoe.
In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Rhonda Abend from Carson City Classic Cinema Club to talk about classic films, tonight's showing of "Charade" and her weekly radio show about films.
Be it classic films or current local films, the club, also known as C5, is committed to bringing Carson City movie entertainment. Its regular schedule of classic films is shown on the first Tuesday of every month at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street.

UPDATE 3:05PM: Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon reports the travel trailer was destroyed in the fire. The adjacent house had heat damage to the siding and eaves. There was not any extension of fire into the residence. No one was injured. The cause remains under investigation.
To correct the record, the calls came into dispatch as a motorhome on fire. It turned out it was a travel trailer.

UPDATE 2:37PM: The fire has been knocked down and engines are being released from the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
