Here's what's happening Thursday:
— Capital City Arts Initiative presents "Saludos Amigos." 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Saludos Amigos", by artist Justin Favela at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. Favela will install his work with community assistance now through Oct. 4. CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, October 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. The artist will give a brief talk about his work at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from Oct. 4, 2019 through Jan. 29, 2020. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Fast Lane/Slow Bake Exhibition. 8 a.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents Fast Lane/Slow Bake, an exhibition by artists Cyndy Brenneman and Tom Drakulich in the Community Center’s Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition runs through Oct. 24, 2019. Brenneman’s narrative watercolors record images from her life of travel. From fast sketches to longer, thoughtful compositions, she selects moments and places that reflect her delightful world view. Drakulich’s abstract ceramic sculptures are created with random folds, scratchy marks, and painterly glazes that allow the viewer to follow his creative processes.Drakulich’s art practice navigates the play between the unusual and the familiar through process-based work in clay. He creates compulsively and physically. The force of spontaneity is the foreground, infinite variation is the framework, and direct action is the mode of operation. His ceramic sculptures begin with a set of guides that evolve from familiar classic techniques that he often distorts into almost uncomfortable abstraction — creating an elegant and distinctive look. The Sierra Room is open to the public during Carson City official meetings including the first/third Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and many afternoons, Monday – Thursday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The free exhibition is available to the public now to Dec. 10, 2019, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Sharon Rosse, CCAI Executive Director, said “CCAI is delighted to work with our partner schools and to present this exhibition of UNR’s students’ work. We are proud of the professional level of the students’ art and of the faculty who encourage and nurture their imaginations and skill levels.” This show is another in CCAI’s ongoing series of student exhibitions in the Brick.
