The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Saludos Amigos" by artist Justin Favela at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The exhibition is in the gallery now through Jan. 29, 2020, at the Courthouse, 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The exhibition is free and the public is cordially invited. The second-floor gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Rose Buds Dance Band presents the Masquerade Ball at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 12. Get ready to have a great time with a live 18-piece band. Masks and costumes are optional but if you don’t wear one you may not win the costume contest!

Good yard sanitation in the fall is as important to year-long plant health as proper planting, watering, fertilizing and pruning are. This is particularly true for next year’s crop of vegetables and fruit. Remove or cut back all the plants in the vegetable garden that are done for the season.

The SLHS Falcons Cross Country Team had another strong day at Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks on Friday Oct. 4. Teagan Hansen finished second in a photo finish with Matt Gordon of Galena.

A 49-year-old Carson City woman and a 51-year-old Carson City man were arrested in the area of S. Carson Street and 6th Street for drug-related felony and misdemeanor crimes.

According to the report, Merie Mona Nowinski and David Lynn Hopper were arrested after Special Enforcement Team deputies were surveilling in the area of N. Carson Street.

The Friends of the Carson City Library, with the library board and staff, are offering a meet and greet with the new library director, Tod Colegrove, on Friday, October 11 from 4:30p.m. to 6 p.m.

No RSVP is required to meet the new director. Those interested should simply head over to the library digitorium located at 900 N. Roop St. for an opportunity to get to know Colegrove more over coffee and a treat.

Forty years ago, Carson City’s art and culture community experienced a massive boost when the Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery opened its doors.

The funding and building of this volunteer run gallery was spearheaded by local Nevada artists and donated to Carson City as part of the Brewery Arts Center Campus in 1979. Today NAA enjoys a membership of over 150 member artists, many of whom volunteer to host at and run Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery that has continually contributed to the arts and culture of the Carson City community throughout the past 40 years.

Broadway musical

Carson Valley Community Theater will present the musical "Lullabies of Broadway" Oct. 11-13 in Minden. Don't miss this tribute to Broadway, brought to you by a talented group of local artists, and volunteers, who are looking forward to bringing this musical to you.

The upcoming Carson City Republican Women's Club meeting will have Nevada State Senator James Settelmeyer as the guest speaker.

The meeting will be held in the Casino Fandango ballroom on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Social hour begins at 11:00 a.m. and the meeting/luncheon at 11:30 a.m.

A 45 minute history presentation on what was perhaps the largest single event ever held in the Eastern Sierra, the 1937 celebration titled, The Wedding of the Waters. The three day affair was created, organized and executed by Catholic priest Father John Crowley.

The new My Place Hotel located at 17 Hospitality Way in Carson City will host a Grand Opening on Thursday, October 10 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m.

Those in attendance will be able to tour the new hotel. There will also be prizes and giveaways, hors d’oeuvres, local food trucks, adult beverages, and there with be live KOZZ classic rock.

Nicole Lee Katz was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the Carson City Aquatics Center for a report of a stolen vehicle.
