Carson City area students participate in International Walk to School Day
International Walk to School Day is being celebrated Wednesday around Carson City. The day is celebrated globally and involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, it has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration each October.
Today, Wednesday, thousands of schools across the country – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico – participate every October.
In conjunction with Nevada Moves Day, a statewide event held in March each year, the day celebrates the fun and benefits of walking and bicycling to school. It also encourages K-8 students, school staff and families to get physically active.
The Walk to School Day event was also celebrated in Douglas, Lyon, Washoe and Storey counties.
