Sierra Lutheran High School treasured the opportunity to serve the community on Wednesday as the Carson City Christian school paused instruction for the day to partner with local schools, churches, and nonprofit organizations on a variety of service projects as part of its Spring Service and Fun Day.

A proposed special use permit was discussed and approved at the Carson City Planning Commission Wednesday evening regarding a new veterans-preference workforce housing multi-family development on Roop Street near Northridge.

The proposed project, called Eagles Landing, includes 126 units total split between two parcels on either side of Northridge Drive off of Roop Street.

Due to continued low water levels, the Sand Harbor boat ramp will remain closed for the upcoming summer. Beginning on May 27 at 6 a.m., the Sand Harbor boat ramp parking lot will be opened to provide a limited number of parking spaces for vehicles with kayaks and paddle boards, as well as parking for oversized vehicles.

The 775 Offroad and Recovery non-profit will host a special event in Carson City to promote and support the Northern Nevada off-road community. The 4x4 Off-road Show n' Shine will be held May 14 at Casino Fandango in the top level of the parking garage.

Carson City Fire Department responded early Monday afternoon to reports of a possible brush fire in the area of Morgan Mill and Deer Run Road. My friend Julie sent me a photo of lumps on manzanita leaves in her yard asking me what they were. I’ve seen many similar lumps and bumps on willows, poplars, oaks, apples and many other plants during my career as a horticulturist. My answer is they are galls.
