ICYMI: Partnership Carson City’s prescription drug round-up happening this Saturday
Partnership Carson City is conducting its bi-annual Drug Round-up this Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to raise awareness around the impacts of keeping unused and expired prescription drugs in households.
This bi-annual event is designed to protect vulnerable populations in the community through education about proper disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, prescription liquids, pet medications, sharps (syringes) and more. The effort is part of the federal drug round-up initiative.
The Drug Round-up takes place at four locations in Carson City:
- Save Mart Supermarkets, located at 3620 N. Carson and 4348 S. Carson streets
- Smith’s Food & Drug Store at 559 E. William St.
- FoodMaxx at 3325 Highway 50 East
“Twice a year, we reach out to our community to talk about the dangers of keeping medicines after they’re no longer needed. It a very preventable health risk,” said Hannah McDonald, executive director of Partnership Carson City. “These drug roundups are designed to be an easy and safe way to dispose of outdated and unused prescription drugs. We’re truly grateful for everyone who is willing to do their part in keeping Carson City healthy.”
At-home drug disposal kits are also available. The kits provide an option for proper disposal at home and are safe for trash disposal. In addition, medicine lock boxes are available as well as medical and commercial cannabis lock bags — both are offered free of charge.
