Sonia Carlson to speak, demonstrate calligraphy at Legislative Building March 19
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 03/11/2015 - 5:12pmGardnerville artist Sonia Carlson hosts a free Chinese Calligraphy workshop at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19 as part of the Nevada Arts Council’s “Work of Artists” series at the Nevada Legislative Building in Carson City.
The event runs until 5 p.m. in Room 3100. All “Work of Artists” presentations are free and open to the public.
Growing up in Zhangzhou, China, Carlson learned calligraphy in school and folk dances from her family.
Reno Chamber Orchestra Presents Tomasz Golka & CCC Winner

Next enjoy a modern composition by composer Witold Lutoslawski, as well as Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations performed by cellist Xiao Lai Zhou, the first prize winner of the Reno Chamber Orchestra’s 2015 College Concerto Competition. Tickets can be purchased on the website and range from $5 – $45.

The 1965 film, starring Charlton Heston as Michelangelo and Rex Harrison as Pope Julius II, deals with their conflict over the painting of the Sistine Chapel.
The club meets in the back room at Red's Old 395 Grill (1055 S. Carson Street in Carson City) at 6:30 PM on the first Tuesday of every month.

Ambrosia, Pablo Cruise to headline Concert Under the Stars benefit for Greenhouse Project

The concert was announced by Cafe at Adele’s owner Charlie Abowd on his Facebook page Saturday. Ticket sales will be announced soon. The show is produced by John Procaccini of Chili Bop Entertainment and will be in the back outside area of Adele's Restaurant and Lounge.
Men Of Worth to play at the BAC March 13

Men of Worth was formed in 1986 by Scotsman Donnie Macdonald and Irishman James Keigher who came together to perform Irish and Scottish folk music, combining traditional and contemporary styles.

Cheer on the Western Nevada College Wildcats as their Baseball and Softball teams battle against Salt Lake City Community College.

Hard Rock Lake Tahoe to add outdoor concerts this summer

The rear parking lot at the Stateline property will be converted into an outdoor amphitheater that will seat up to 7,500 people.
In a venture with PR Entertainment, Inc., owned by former Caesars Entertainment Director Paul Reder, Hard Rock is looking to attract top-name national artists to the Lake Tahoe area. They plan on starting the concerts in June and concluding on Labor Day weekend.
Old-time radio drama meets 21st-century hip graphic novel on stage at UNR
Submitted by editor on Thu, 03/05/2015 - 4:49pmThe original idea for The Intergalactic Nemesis (a wacky live-action graphic novel performed on stage with simple scripts, a couple actors, some crazy noises), all started in a coffee shop in Austin, Texas.
It’s a whole lot bigger than that now: Enter a sound-effects genius, an emotion-wielding keyboardist, three actors voicing tons of wacky characters, with 1,200 vintage-cool illustrations projected over the stage, all telling the story like a 1930s radio play with decidedly 21st-century spins.
World Record Holding Comedian Geechy Guy at Carson Comedy club inside Carson Nugget
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 03/05/2015 - 12:03amA world recorder holder will be on stage live, March 27, 7:30 p.m. at the Carson Comedy club inside the Carson Nugget. Geechy Guy landed himself a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records record when he told 676 jokes in one hour.
Geech was invited to San Francisco to compete in the prestigious Comedy where he finished in the top 10 out of 500 comics, two years in a row. Shortly after Geech secured a spot on TV’s “Star Search,” (where he beat Ray Romano among others) and went on to set the record for the most appearances by a comedian.
CHS concert band plays alongside USAF musicians during sold out Carson City performance
Submitted by editor on Wed, 03/04/2015 - 9:35pmIt’s not often high school band students have the opportunity to play with a professional orchestra the size and quality of the United States Air Force Concert Band of Washington, D.C.
Yet several CHS band and Chamber Choir students played and sang along with the USAF Concert Band and Singing Sergeants during a sold out show at the Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center on Wednesday night.

King St., Carson City. At 6:30 p.m., Jeffrey Munson will teach a lesson in intermediate West Coast swing. Social dance is 7:30-10 p.m. This month we have the added feature of a live band playing for part of the evening. "Two and half Margaritas" is a local band comprised of dancers. Partners are not required. Lesson $7 for HSSDC and any swing dance club members or $10 for nonmembers; dance $7 for members of swing clubs and $10 for nonmembers.

The enchanted evening will held at Senator's Castle, Carson High School, on April 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
This community event is open to all ages of girls. One Princess from each elementary and middle school in the Carson City area will be crowned that evening, and one from a pre-school age group as well. There is no age limit for this event.

Producer Wayne Wright expressed enthusiasm about the new launch on March 6th, stating, “Good comedy is hard to find in Northern Nevada. As long as there is a need for laughter, I will keep bringing in comedians to entertain.”
Mile High Jazz Band presents Open Windows: An Evening of Big-Band Jazz and Poetry

The event will be on Tuesday, March 10, 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and under.
