Ambrosia, Pablo Cruise to headline Concert Under the Stars benefit for Greenhouse Project
The 7th annual Concert Under the Stars, a benefit for the Greenhouse Project, will feature a July 8 double billing with 70's and 80's smooth classic rock powerhouses Ambrosia and Pablo Cruise.
The concert was announced by Cafe at Adele’s owner Charlie Abowd on his Facebook page Saturday. Ticket sales will be announced soon. The show is produced by John Procaccini of Chili Bop Entertainment and will be in the back outside area of Adele's Restaurant and Lounge.
It is the first time for Ambrosia to appear at Concert Under the Stars and the second time for Pablo Cruise, which performed as the headliner in 2012.
Prog and smooth 70's and 80's album rockers Ambrosia earned five Top 40 hit singles between 1975 and 1980, and after a hiatus during the latter 1980s most of the original band members have been active with the group for the past 25 years to the present day. Among their most notable hits include “How Much I Feel,” “Biggest Part of Me,” “Holdin’ onto Yesterday,” and “You’re the Only Woman.”
Ambrosia today tours internationally and has worked in the past and present with Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Alan Parsons, Bruce Hornsby, and most recently Michael McDonald, among other notable artists.
Pablo Cruise is a pop/rock band currently composed of David Jenkins (guitar and vocals), Cory Lerios (keyboards and vocals), Steve Price (drums) and Larry Antonino (bass and vocals). Formed in 1973, the band released eight studio albums over the next decade, during which time four singles reached the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Among the notable hits include “Love will Find a Way,” “Watcha Gonna Do,” “I Go to Rio” “Ocean Breeze,” “A Place in the Sun” and “Cool Love.”
Charlie Abowd was unavailable for comment Saturday evening but Charlie's wife and Carson City Board of Supervisor Karen Abowd noted the concert falls on her husband's birthday, with previous Concert Under the Stars benefit concerts falling the day before or the day after his birthday.
"This one was right on it," she said.
The Greenhouse Project began in 2008 and serves as a teaching facility for hands-on training programs that emphasize environmental stewardship, the importance of outdoor activity, civic engagement and academic achievement. Through these programs, students cultivate and distribute vegetables for school culinary classes and local food banks and produce flower baskets for the downtown Carson City corridor.
In addition to providing youth educational and vocational opportunities, The Greenhouse Project also serves the needs of Carson's low-income community by increasing access to fresher, more nutritious food supplies.
The project promotes revitalization of Carson City's downtown commercial corridor by enhancing its appearance through horticultural arts.
