I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: July 4-5

You might as well stay at Mills Park all day, the fireworks display starts when it gets dark. Tune into Magic 95.5FM and you’ll hear the choreographed music to go along with the oohs and aaahs. Where ever you choose to watch fireworks, please be safe. There are thousands of visitors in the Northern Nevada area this weekend, and law enforcement will be out in full force.
SATURDAY: Independence Day
- Free Swim for Active and Retired Military at the Carson Hot Springs (7am-10pm; outdoor pools only)
- Freedom 5K Fun Run/Walk and Concert in the Park with the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra at Heritage Park, Gardnerville (5K, $20 per person and family rates, free for active/retired military; register 7am-7:45am; Run/Walk begins 8am, Patriotic costumes encouraged; 8am Carson Valley Lions Club Pancake Breakfast $7; Free Kids Obstacle Course 8am; Free Concert begins 11:30am)
Big items up for grabs at live auction during Concert Under the Stars benefit

The generosity of the community by and through the donations of ever-changing and diverse packages, means there is something for everyone. And of course, the community’s willingness to bid and support the ongoing work of The Greenhouse Project, completes the circle.

Carson City Historical Society Presents Teapot Exhibit in July

The Museum will be open for several days in July for the Exhibit. Paula Cannon has assembled over sixty unique teapots that will be on display. The Museum is located at Admission is free. The Museum and the Teapot Exhibit will be open on the following schedule.

Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.
SATURDAY:
- Karson Krusers’ Run Whatcha Brung Car Show at Fuji Park (registration 7am-9am; show and vendors until 6pm; parade to downtown 6pm)

Downtown Carson City celebrates with Motor Patrol Challenge, Bikes and Brew street party

Among the motor patrol officers competing from around the region through courses along downtown Carson City streets, there's also classic cars, many local craft brewers and wineries, beer and wine tasting, vendors, food and contests.

Elizabeth “Bessie” Coleman, popularly known as “Queen Bess”, was the first Black woman to become an airplane pilot, and the first American woman to hold an International pilot’s license. While many people know about early aviator Amelia Earhart, Bessie Coleman, a black woman who got her pilot’s license even before Earhart did, is little known.
Silver Dollar Classic Car Cruise tonight at Carson Station

CCAI and St. Mary's will host a reception for the artist on Saturday, June 27, 1-4pm including an artist talk at 2pm. St. Mary's Art Center is located at 55 North R Street, Virginia City, Nevada. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open to the public Thursday – Sunday, 11am – 4pm.
Lacy J. Dalton to perform at museum-bound Nevada State Prison for chamber anniversary

Dalton is the first to perform in this historic setting. The Reno Rodeo is always a good time for the whole family. Or head over to Tahoe Ridge Winery for their CruZin and Cabernet Father’s Day Celebration. Dangberg Ranch, off Highway 88 in Minden, is kicking off their Summer Concert Series with the Nighthawks. Bring a chair or blanket, and the whole family.

Ambrosia will be in the house performing their numerous hits and new offerings, including their latest song “Hopes & Dreams,” written for and featured in the movie, “The Sparrows Nesting."
Carson City Historical Society Seeks Teapots for Exhibit in July
Submitted by editor on Sat, 06/20/2015 - 9:21amThe Carson City Historical Society is looking for unusual teapots it can borrow for its free Teapot Exhibit from July 1 through July 31, 2015, at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum, 1207 N. Carson St., Carson City. The teapots can be unique in some fashion: quaint, various sizes, elegant or funky.
Teapots on loan will be for display only. Some of the teapots on display will be from the Museum's own collection and are used for Sunday Afternoon Teas, such as those scheduled for August 9 and October 11.

The annual Powwow at the Stewart Indian School runs Friday through Sunday, so you’ll have plenty of time to see the dancing, peruse the crafts, and eat an Indian Taco. Don’t miss the Fly-in and Open House at the Carson City Airport: fun for the whole family. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of Carson City’s favorite events: the Taste of Downtown. Music, food, and more from Carson Mall to Williams Street. Have a great time, and be safe.
Chautauqua of Lillian Virgin Finnegan, Creator of the Genoa Candy Dance

Locally known as the woman who started the Genoa Candy Dance in 1919, Lillian Virgin Finnegan is presented in 1914 after women gained the right to vote in Nevada. She was a suffragette and worked closely with Governor Emmett Boyle during his terms in office.

We have a variety of classes available for sign up, and lots of free open studio time. Our glazes are beautiful and we would love for you to drop by and take a look at them.
Those who have never worked with clay, or have and want to do some hand building would benefit taking a hand building class with Leigh Lunt on Wednesdays from 1:30 - 4:30 pm, starting June 24th.
Carson City 2015 Senior Follies presents "Flashbacks!"

Small town, big fireworks and parade July 4 in Virginia City

Davidson at 6,200 feet elevation, the “kaboom” rocks the old 1850s historic mining community as the fireworks soar high above the town and Six Mile Canyon, making it visible from nearly anywhere in town.

Carson City Classic Cinema Club hosts Hollywood Gala Dinner and Fundraiser

In celebrating the Club's first Anniversary, the theme of the event is the First Academy Awards of 1929.
Festivities of the Gala include a Red-Carpet Photo Op, Sit-Down Dinner, Raffles, and Silent Auction. The Club will also present it's first Carson Arts Studies Trust (CAST) Award to The Boys and Girls Club. Prizes will be awarded for the best Classic Celebrity Costume and for the best 1920s fashion.
