Holiday movie premiers, turkey drop, craft show and more highlight weekend events around Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. A Thanksgiving Turkey Drop for families in need will be held Friday at Max Casino. The holiday movie premieres of “Feliz NaviDAD” and “Once Upon A Main Street” on Saturday will feature different venues in Carson City. Along with a craft show at the Carson Mall and live music, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement! Read on for more information.

Friday, November 20
Thanksgiving Turkey Drop for Carson City, Douglas families in need held at Max Casino. 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 900 S. Carson St. The Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County is seeking donations of Thanksgiving turkeys for families in need, and will be collecting them Friday at Max Casino in Carson City.

Christmas Craft Show at the Carson Mall. 9 a.m. to 5: 30 p.m. at 1313 S. Carson St. Come and join us for the annual craft show. We will have jewelry, crafts clothes, and other things for everyone on your list!

Eddy Street Vintage Market Pop-Up. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1235 Eddy St. in Gardnerville. What better way is there to give thanks to your closest friends and family than by spending the day with them at Eddy Street Vintage Market? Join us for our Thanksgiving Sale!

Nevada Artists Association Nevada Day Show. 12 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. Stop by the Nevada Artists Association now to see the Nevada Day show, hosting art made from local artists through the end of December. Open every day 12-4 p.m. except Mondays and Thanksgiving Day at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery, 449 West King Street, Carson City, NV.

Carson City Library Hosts Virtual Program. 4 p.m. via Zoom. For elementary school ages, join us virtually via Zoom. To register, visit https://carsoncitylibrary.libcal.com/event/6598988 Do you like to make and create? Join us for fun STEAM activities each month! This month learn how to build a rubber band guitar! We'll talk about frequency, pitch, and music as a whole.

Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop. 6 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson St. Open Mic is back at A to Zen tonight! Come and support local musicians from all over and enjoy a night of music.

Dinner and Music at Living the Good Life. 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. We are open Tuesday through Saturday with dinner specials and live music on Friday! Please be sure to join us and follow state protocols.

Friday Night Karaoke at the Whiskey Tavern. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 3481 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Come hang out with the Whiskey Tavern and J and M Productions as we sing the night away every Friday! Must be at least 21 years old.

Saturday, November 21
Carson City, Douglas County-filmed Lifetime holiday movies set to premiere Saturday (all day). Carson City was abuzz this summer after our beautiful streets became something of a winter wonderland, thanks to not one but two different Lifetime Network movies deciding to feature our town in their films! "Feliz NaviDAD" and "Once Upon a Main Street" filmed in various locations around Carson City and in Douglas County and are set to premiere on Lifetime on Nov. 21 and Nov. 29, respectively.

Holiday Open House at Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery LLC. 10 a.m. at 405 N. Nevada St. Join Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery for our "Annual Holiday Open House" on Saturday, Nov. 21 beginning at 10 a.m.Things will be a bit different this year, masks are required, social distancing is strongly recommended, and 10 people max are allowed in the gallery at once.

Basket Weaving Class at HelloHandmade. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1754 Ironwood Dr. in Minden. Learn the technique of coiled basketry with a wrap stitch and contrasting edge. We’ll discuss a brief overview of raffia basket making and various materials used… and then it’s time to get to weaving! By the end of class you’ll have completed a 3”x3″ accessories basket perfect for holding small potted plants or as a catchall on the coffee table.

Santa Pictures at the Carson Mall. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1313 S. Carson St. We are so excited to have Santa coming to visit all the good boys, girls and their family! Below is Santa’s current schedule. We are highly encouraging everybody that wants to see Santa, do so sooner than later.

Coin Press Demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum. 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 401 N. Carson St. Demonstration of Coin Press No. 1 in the Historic Carson City Mint Building. Admission is $8 for adults and free for members and children age 17 and under.

Moose Happy Hour at Feisty Goat Pub. 4 p.m. at 1881 E. Long St. in Carson City. We are going to have a Moose Happy Hour on Saturday at the Feisty Goat Pub 1881 E Long Street Carson City. Call at 775-887-0202.

Holiday Frame with Santa. 4 to 6 p.m. at Magical Moments Photography and Studio, 1325 S. Carson St. Come and make a holiday frame with Mr. and Mrs. Claus! We will be providing a special picture with your little and Mr. and Mrs. Claus for $15 per person.

Pool Tournament at Bulldog Billiards. 6 p.m. at 251 Jeanell Dr. Suite 9 in Carson City. We will be following BCA rules and double elimination.Sign-ups start at 5 p.m. and tournament tables will be open for practice to enrolled players. There will be a $10 entry and $2 greens fee.

Sunday, November 22

Carson City Library looking for Bionics Camp interns (all day). The Carson City Library is hiring three interns to assist with a series of three-day Bionics Camps to be held in 2021. Carson City high school students who are interested in assisting with Bionics Camps are encouraged to apply by Nov. 22. Students can apply by emailing a resume showing experience and/or interest in STEM topics, and two letters of recommendation (one from a teacher, counselor or other school administrator) to the Carson City Library's Creative Learning Department: creativelearning@carsoncitylibrary.org. Applicants are asked to use the subject line "Bionics internship" when applying or inquiring about the Bionics Camp internship.

The unpredictability of spring this first weekend of May continues with the threat of snow showers in the Sierra on Saturday, along with gusty winds and rain down to the valley floors for Carson City and surrounding areas. The storm system should moved out by Sunday morning.

Carson High School Culinary Arts and Early Childhood Education students competed at the three-day state conference last month for Nevada Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. This was the first time the school’s programs participated in the conference. A total of 25 students competed in eight events.

Carson City’s former Board of Supervisor and business owner Stan Jones was posthumously awarded Thursday the Historic Preservation Award for his long time work for downtown Carson City.

Each year, a Historic Preservation Award is awarded by the Historic Resources Commission to Carson City residents or organizations who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to historic preservation.

The Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is today, Thursday, May 2 at the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City. The memorial brings hundreds to the capitol grounds. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office arrested three for their alleged involvement in business thefts last month on Topsy Lane south of Carson City.

The national issue of suicide — particularly among veterans — touched many people who attended the Walk for Hope on Wednesday morning at Western Nevada College in Carson City.

The new renovations at the Carson City Senior Center opened the opportunity to host art shows to extend enrichment to the senior community. Carson City Senior Center presents “Geographical Divides: Finding Common Ground,” featuring 16 artists who were asked to explore the geographical and cultural differences in Nevada, if such differences truly exist.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.
