New Christian School Coming to Carson City Fall of 2022

Legacy Christian Academy will be opening as an early childhood to 8th grade Christian school in Carson City in the Fall of 2022. The educational program at Legacy will consist of an accredited Biblical worldview-based curriculum, including discipleship, worship, and service learning modeled after the love and life of Jesus Christ. In addition to the core academic curriculum, we will offer various extracurricular programs, which will also be available to homeschool families.

Local scientist donates 550 thermometer watches to Carson City STEM school

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Empire Elementary School, a designated Governor’s STEM School, has received 550 Thermometer Watches from local Scientist Ron Newton. The wearable technology, costing less than $10, is designed to monitor the temperature of the wearer and indicate if they are running a fever.

Nevada governor releases final details, program notes for tonight's 2021 State of the State

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak released the final viewing details for the 2021 State of the State address that happens Tuesday.The pre-program begins at 5:45 p.m. and will air at the link here. Then, at 6 p.m., the 2021 address will air by going to the link here.

Two Carson City teachers earn National Board Certification

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. The teachers to be recognized earning certification are Patricia Ababio, Graphic Arts teacher in the Career and Technical Education program at Carson High School, and Rhonda Holloway, English teacher at Carson Middle School.

Carson City School Board to consider return of in-person classes for 3rd to 6th grades

The Carson City School District will hold a special school board meeting Thursday, Dec. 17 in order to discuss reopening schools for third through fifth grade students at the elementary school level, as well as sixth grade students at the middle school level.

Holiday movie premiers, turkey drop, craft show and more highlight weekend events around Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. A Thanksgiving Turkey Drop for families in need will be held Friday at Max Casino. The holiday movie premieres of “Feliz NaviDAD” and “Once Upon A Main Street” on Saturday will feature different venues in Carson City. Carson City Schools Foundation awards various grants to support students and educators

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2020. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded $200 mini-grants as well as up to $2,000 grants for a department, school or grade-level projects.

Obituary: Paul Hochsprung

Paul Donald Hochsprung, born Oct. 21, 1953, passed away at Carson Tahoe Hospital with his wife at his side on March 23, 2020, after a recent diagnosis of metastatic melanoma.

Nevada Association of School Boards presents awards to Lyon County School District leaders

A small airplane that made an emergency landing in a field Wednesday afternoon near Fremont Elementary School in Carson City was moved for tow to nearby Saliman Road, across from the school.

Mr. Victor Garcia-Mendez, an English Second Language paraprofessional at Mark Twain Elementary School in Carson City, was one of only two school employees nominated by Gov. Steve Sisolak to represent Nevada in the national selection process for the Recognizing Inspirational School Employees Award.

In-person Instruction to Resume at Mark Twain Elementary in Carson City

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Mark Twain Elementary School will resume in-person instruction with teachers and students beginning next week. Teachers and employees are expected to return Monday, Nov. 9, to conduct remote lessons, and students in specific grade levels and assigned cohorts are expected to return beginning Tuesday, Nov. 10, for in-person learning.

Due to the number of employees and students who have been advised to isolate from confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Mark Twain Elementary School and out of an abundance of caution, the Carson City School District will temporarily transition the school and its students to full-remote learning until further notice.
