Shoe Drive to Benefit The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada
This fall, the Lodge Assisted Living Community is sponsoring SOLEmates, a month long program to help provide new athletic shoes to kids with The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada. The number of children who need help in Carson City is disproportionately high when compared to other communities of its size. Too many kids don’t have life’s basic necessities; some even tape their shoes to keep them together. The goal of SOLEmates is to acquire 300 pairs of new athletic shoes to help those kids run, play and stay active.
This past year The Lodge and The Boys and Girls Club worked together to form the “Wisdom Circle”, a fun and meaningful experience for both the elders and the students. The SOLEmates project came out of that partnership with the elders became aware of the need.
Residents of The Lodge will kick of the shoe drive on Monday October 1st at 1:00pm when they will shop for shoes at the Carson City Big 5 store. The campaign will run through October 31st.
The public can get involved by donating NEW athletic shoes to these kids in need. All sizes from youth through adult are needed. Donations can be dropped off at these Carson City locations; Fitness for 10, 829 Fairview Drive, Fitness Evolution, 3456 N. Carson St. Kaia Fit/Tumbleweeds, 3633 Research Way #104, the Boys and Girls Club 1870 Russell Way, and The Lodge Assisted Living Community, 2200 E. Long St.
