Star gazing, moonlight hike and campfire stories offered in June at Washoe Lake State Park

Washoe Lake State Park is offering a variety of events during the month of June, including an astronomy program with telescopes, a slide presentation about Washoe Lake, a campfire program and a full moon hike.

These events are included with the park’s entrance fee of $7/vehicle. Nevada residents receive a $2 discount. We can accept cash or check for the entrance fee; pay in the envelopes at the entrance to the park. Please call 775-687-4319 for more information or e-mail us at washoelake@hdiss.net.

Saturday, June 11: Star Party
The Northern Nevada Astronomy Group will have telescopes set up at the Maze parking lot for viewing stars, planets, and other wonders of the night sky! Bring a jacket, lawn chair, and a red light if possible (red lights do not negatively affect night vision).
WHEN: Saturday, June 11, at 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: 4855 Eastlake Blvd (Take the Eastlake Blvd Exit #44 from I-580.). Meet at the Maze parking lot. Enter the park, turn left past the fee booth, and it is the first parking lot on the right.
OTHER: June 11 is “Discover Nevada State Parks” Day, Free Fishing Day, and National Get Outdoors Day. Park entrance fees are waived for the day!

Wednesday, June 15: Washoe Lake Slide Presentation
This 30 to 45-minute program will focus on Washoe Lake State Park and its natural and cultural resources. We will start with a brief history of Washoe Valley, and highlight park facilities, activities and interpretive programs.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 15 at 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: 4855 Eastlake Blvd (Take the Eastlake Blvd Exit #44 from I-580.). Meet in the Equestrian Pavilion. Enter the park, turn right, pass the campground, and follow a short gravel road to the pavilion’s parking area.

Saturday, June 18: Nevada Wildlife Campfire Program
Guest speaker Tricia Dutcher from the Oxbow Nature Study Area in Reno will join us for a program about Nevada’s wildlife species. Participants should bring a lawn chair and flashlight if possible.
WHEN: Saturday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Take Eastlake Blvd. Exit # 44 from I-580, drive north approximately 3.5 miles, and the park entrance is on the left. Turn right after the fee booth, and the campground is on the left. Meet at campsite # 14 in Campground Loop A.

Monday, June 20: Full Moon Hike
Reservations are required for this hike and can be made by calling (775) 687-4319 or e-mailing washoelake@hdiss.net. This will be a one-mile, out-and-back walk on the beach of Little Washoe Lake.
WHEN: Monday, June 20 at 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: Meet in the parking lot at Little Washoe Lake. Take Exit 50 from I-580 onto Old U.S. Highway 395. After 3 miles, turn right onto Eastlake Blvd., and the park access road is on the right.
