Deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, police officers from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments and troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol participated in the “Joining Forces” holiday weekend administrative roadblock from 1:30 pm – 7:30 pm. During the 6-hour event, 1008 vehicles were screened with 22 of those directed into the secondary screening area.

Dayton man identified in Friday fatal accident on Highway 50 in Mound House
Submitted by editor on Mon, 08/30/2010 - 4:56pmA Dayton man has been identified as the driver of a fatal accident that happened on Friday on Highway 50 in Mound House near the Carson City and Lyon County line.
Steven Milnor Gonzales, 62, died Friday from injuries sustained from the accident after being flown by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Three air ambulances needed after Carson City accident on Silver Oak Drive
Submitted by editor on Sat, 08/28/2010 - 2:23pmA two-vehicle accident reported at about 2:15 this afternoon required three air ambulances to transport three patients, one of them a pregnant woman, witnesses, paramedics and Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi confirmed.
CalStar and CareFlight helicopters were dispatched to the head-on crash site and transported three patients to Renown Medical Center in Reno, according to scanner traffic between Carson City dispatch and emergency crews on scene. The accident was reported at 777 Sliver Oak Drive, a residential neighborhood.
One dead in Highway 50 accident near Carson City and Lyon County line
Submitted by editor on Fri, 08/27/2010 - 6:46pmA man died early this evening after a head-on vehicle accident on Highway 50 in Mound House near Carson City, the Nevada Highway Patrol confirmed.
Two men were flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno, with one of the victims dying at the hospital, said NHP Sgt. Eddie Bowers. The accident happened at 4:15 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle who is believed to be the one who caused the accident, is the man who died, Bowers said. The second victim was reportedly conscious and alert at the hospital, he added.

Chad Russell Hunter, 40, is being held on $45,132 bail. He was arrested on Tuesday at around 8:30 p.m. at the Warren Inn.

Gusty winds, low humidity raise Red Flag weather warning today for Carson City region
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/17/2010 - 9:52amA Red Flag warning issued by the National Weather Service in Reno is in effect through 11 tonight for the Carson City region.
A Red Flag warning means critical fire conditions, such as gusty winds and low humidity, will occur. According to www.carsonweather.com, low pressure over the eastern Pacific will move into the region today. This will bring with it winds and very dry air to the Sierra and northwest Nevada.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity could create the potentil for critical fire weather conditions, the weather service said.
Motorcyclist killed, wife injured in Churchill County accident
Submitted by editor on Mon, 08/16/2010 - 11:31amA Battle Mountain man died on Sunday morning after he crashed his motorcycle in Eastern Churchill County, the Nevada High Patrol reports.
Michael A. Jurad, 66, died of his injuries. Jurad's wife, Mary L. Jurad, who was a passenger, was flown to Reno and is listed in serious condition this morning at Renown Regional Medical Center, NHP reports.
The accident was reported at 9:46 a.m. Sunday on State Route 722 near mile marker 15 in eastern Churchill County, a mile west of Carroll Summit.

Submitted by editor on Mon, 08/09/2010 - 5:39pmPatricia Potter, former Carson City educator and former chair of the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Board of Trustees, died at her Carson City home at 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2010. She was 80.
"I was saddened to learn of Pat's passing," said U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
"She was a good teacher and a good friend to many Nevadans," Reid added.
"Pat was a strong advocate for change and fought for a better Nevada as chair of the Carson City Democratic Central Committee. My thoughts go out to Pat's family and friends during this difficult time," Reid stated.
Flash Flood Watch issued today by National Weather Service for the Carson City region

The watch will be from 1 p.m. through this evening. Scattered thunderstorms with very little movement may produce heavy rain today for the Carson City region. According to the Reno-based weather service, the strongest storms may produce rainfall rates of over one inch per hour with a strong potential for flash flooding.

Two Care Flight choppers summoned to Carson City Airport after a reported accident

The car accident in the Northgate Lane area of Carson City was reported at 1:37 this afternoon. In a separate call, at 1:38, an air ambulance was needed for an overdose patient, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.
Reports are that a 10-year-old girl was injured in the car accident, Furlong said. The extent of the child's injuries are unknown, Furlong added.

Caleb Cage named Nevada Office of Veterans Services executive director

Cage presently serves as a Senior Policy Advisor/Rural and Veterans Issues for Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki.
Cage attained the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army, serving in Iraq as recently as 2006. Captain Cage was awarded the Army’s Bronze Star Medal for his service in Iraq. He is a 2002 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
Weather Service issues afternoon Red Flag warning for Carson City and much of Northern Nevada

Low pressure expected through Saturday will bring increasing afternoon and evening winds that will produce very dry, fire-prone weather conditions, the weather service states.
Additional charges may be filed in Carson City burglary crime ring

Bryan Allen Gaudette, 24, faces five additional felony counts of burglary and is being held in the Carson City Jail on $25,000 bond.
He is currently in custody for other items already recovered in the same case, authorities report.
State insurance workers on leave because of pigeon problem

Thunderstorm produces hail in Carson City

According to the weather service, thunderstorms will produce abundant dry lightning for the lower elevations of northeastern California and western Nevada. Thunderstorms may have some moderate to locally heavy rain in the cores but fast storm motions will provide abundant dry lightning strikes on storm peripheries and the threat of numerous new fire starts.
Dozens of burglary victims look for stolen goods at Carson City viewing
Submitted by editor on Mon, 07/26/2010 - 11:39amVictims by the dozens arrived at the Carson City Sheriff's Office this morning hoping to find what was stolen from them after authorities cracked a burglary ring earlier this month that is believed to have started a year ago.
Sifting through hundreds of items such as iPods, laptops, CDs, DVDs, guns, tools and guitars, many of the victims said they were hopeful they could place positive identifications on what had been taken from them.
Band of strong thunderstorms headed toward Carson City range

The west side of the Carson range can expect lightning, moderate rainfall amounts of around a half inch per hour, reducing visibility to less than three miles and strong gusty winds of around 40 to 50 mph, according to the weather service.
Areas mostly likely to be affected include Genoa, Spooner Summit, Lakeview and the Washoe Lake areas, as well as Glenbrook, Incline Village and the Mount Rose summit.
Flash flood warning issued for Carson City; power line snaps
Submitted by editor on Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:21pmA flash flood warning issued for Carson City has expired but continues through 6:15 p.m. in central Douglas County, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. Rain and heavy winds have punched the region, with reports of power outages in east and west Carson City.
In addition, the westbound lane of Highway 50 going up to Spooner Summit is closed, with Nevada Highway Patrol diverting traffic. No word yet on the cause for the closure.
A power line snapped and a transformer is down in the area of Spear and Nevada streets near Division. Carson City fire crews and the Carson City Sheriff's Office closed portions of traffic in the area. The downed power lines did not arc and were not live on the ground, according to fire personnel on the scene.
