Woman jailed on felony drug, child neglect charges after daughter stuck with needle

A Carson City woman was arrested on felony charges of child neglect and possession of a controlled substance after officers learned the woman’s 4-year-old daughter had been stuck with a hypodermic needle, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Christine Rael, 19, is being held on $41,387 bail. A 26-year-old Dayton man, Joseph Kendall, was also arrested at the woman’s residence, in the 900 block of Woodside Drive, on suspicion of drug trafficking after a backpack with heroin was discovered. His bail has been set at $20,000.

Yesterday, I found myself in Walmart doing last minute “Band-Aid shopping” for a party I was throwing. Band-Aid shopping is a special kind of shopping. No, I’m not talking about shopping for Band-Aids. I’m talking about shopping for items that will be a temporary fix to a problem.

Authorities seek identity of man with stolen credit card from Tahoe vehicle burglary

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this person of interest in a vehicle burglary that occurred at the Tahoe Rim Trailhead and subsequent credit card fraud at the Walmart store on Grant Ave in Gardnerville.

Suspect in vehicle chase from Carson City to Reno now in custody

A man suspected of eluding Carson City sheriff’s deputies in a Feb. 25 vehicle pursuit that began in Carson City but was called off for safety reasons after it was well into the Reno area, has been arrested, police said.

Arrested was Scott Hermens, 34. He was taken into custody at Walmart off Damonte Ranch Parkway in south Reno and faces multiple charges, including a felony eluding charge issued out of Carson City for the late night vehicle chase, said Carson City Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Humphrey.

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested 6:33 p.m. in the 1800 block of Russell Way on misdemeanor charges of petit larceny and obstructing.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the Walmart store in the 3200 block of Market Street regarding a larceny that had occurred and the suspect running eastbound from the area.

The man allegedly walked out of the store with a shopping cart with $23.44 in merchandise, including body spray and shampoo, without paying.

Carson City sheriff's log: Arrests made for burglary, DUIs and battery involving pepper spray

Two people, a 39-year-old woman and 35-year-old man were arrested Saturday in the 700 block of Hot Springs Road in Carson City on suspicion of felony burglary. Arrested were Deeanna Sue Byars and James Thomas Rebelez. Each are being held on $20,000 bond, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, at approximately 2 p.m. an officer was dispatched to 3200 Market Street, Walmart, for a petit larceny report. The officer learned the suspects were walking down Hot Springs Road.

Carson City man jailed after domestic battery victim jumps from moving vehicle

A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday after a domestic dispute in which the victim said she was hit by the man and then to get away from him, jumped out of the moving vehicle he was driving, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying suspects wanted in connection with separate theft cases at the Walmart store near Highway 395 and Topsy Lane in Carson City and on Grant Street in Gardnerville.

In the first case, these two persons of interest shown in the photo above, are wanted for questioning for a Jan. 28, attempted theft. It happened at around 7:25 p.m when the two males entered the store and went to the electronics department, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Pat Brooks.

A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday in the 3500 block of Emerson Drive on felony suspicion of domestic battery with strangulation, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

In custody is John Joseph Burritt. He also faces two counts of violation of probation, both misdemeanors. His total bail amount is $26,000. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the Emerson Drive address at 11:17 p.m. on a 911 hang up call.

Possible measles case in Churchill County

A toddler from Churchill County with symptoms consistent with the measles is being evaluated with laboratory results are pending, health officials there announced Tuesday. Two similar cases were reported by Washoe County health officials on Monday.

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 6:52 a.m. in the 3300 block of East Nye Lane on a misdemeanor charge of DUI and minor consuming alcohol, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, officers were called to the area regarding a suspicious vehicle. The suspect told deputies he had eight beers and pulled his car over to sleep.

Randy Paul Warstler also faces five misdemeanor charges including obstructing an officer, driving with a revoked license, suspended registration, having no proof on insurance and violation of a suspended sentence. He was arrested at 3:52 a.m.

Man jailed on battery charge after allegedly punching girlfriend's father

A 28-year-old Reno man was arrested Monday in the 1300 block of Ladera Drive on suspicion of misdemeanor battery after he allegedly punched his girlfriend’s father in the face when he was told to leave the woman alone, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, the man was at the Ladera residence and asked to leave by his girlfriend. When he refused to leave, saying he was going to gather his belongings, the girlfriend called her parents.

Pair jailed on felony charges in vehicle burglary, used stolen credit cards to shop, eat pizza

Two were arrested and face multiple felony charges related to a vehicle burglary that happened Friday where stolen credit cards were used at a casino and to purchase around $900 worth merchandise, clothing and pizza, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested were Joshua Allen, 34, of Richmond, Calif., and April Grover, 29, of Bay Point, Calif. Each face felony charges of auto burglary, commercial burglary, credit card fraud, prescription drug and controlled substance possession and a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. The two were already in jail facing other charges.

Salvation Army Red Kettle challenge Monday brings out 49er, Packer fan bell ringers

The Salvation Army Red Kettles at Walmart on Topsy Lane will have a challenge between the Green Bay Packer’s fans and San Francisco 49ers fans Monday, Dec. 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. The Packers fans will be “bell ringing” at the grocery entrance and the 49er fans will be “bell ringing” at the household entrance.

The Salvation Army is not taking sides on this challenge, but is excited to see some of the local NFL fans come out and help them serve the community.

Carson City delivers big time with 10th annual Holiday with a Hero

The 10th annual Holiday with a Hero was held Wednesday at Walmart in Carson City with 190 school children from kindergarten through fifth grade having a Christmas to call their own, thanks to the astounding response from Carson City donors and volunteers.

Nearly 300 volunteers were at the event to help the Carson City area school children shop at Walmart using gift cards paid for by donations from around the community. Each child was given a $100 gift card and paired with a "hero" to spend on clothing, shoes and a toy.

Donations soar for Carson City 'Holiday with a Hero' campaign ahead of Wednesday's event

Holiday with a Hero is Wednesday and the Carson City community has pulled through in a big way and well within $1,000 of meeting its fundraising goal, organizers say.

In its 10th year, the project pairs Carson City school children with law enforcement officers, firefighters, members of the U.S. military and public officials. The event provides each child with gift cards to shop for things they need such as clothing and shoes as well as a toy to call their own.

A Mill Valley, Calif., man was arrested at 3:03 a.m. Sunday at East Musser at Carson Street on suspicion of DUI, speeding and driving with a suspended or revoked license, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

The vehicle was stopped after being clocked going 50 mph in a 35 and 48 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to the arrest report. The driver was contacted where he identified himself with a California driver’s license that came back suspended.

Three people were arrested Thursday on felony charges in connection with an alleged kidnapping and robbery that happened at a Menlo Drive residence on Nov. 23 and may have involved as many as seven people.

Lawrence “Ears” Reagan, 29, Crystal Gonzales-Rubke, 24, and Randall Saucedo, 30, were arrested on warrants issued out Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 of Carson City Justice Court. Each are being held on $200,000 bail. The three are from Carson City.

Carson Victory Rollers holds derby Sunday to benefit Food For Thought

The Carson Victory Rollers will hold their annual Red vs. Green Scrimmage to benefit the local Food For Thought program. The event is this Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center gymnasium.

Come out and watch both the Junior Victory Rollers and adult skaters battle it out. Along with action packed skating, there will also be a raffle. Prizes include a scooter donated by the Wheelhouse, tattoo gift certificates, rounds of golf, haircuts and much more.

In Plain Sight Marketing founder Renee Taylor Plain and Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell each made $100 donations Monday to Holiday with a Hero. They are asking small business owners, those in local government and community members to give what they can.

The 2014 Toys For Tots season is in full swing and we need your help. The local Toys For Tots campaign will be helping thousands of children in Carson, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties with toys this holiday season.

Marines from the Bridgeport Warfare Center will be at all three Walmart stores in the Carson City and Douglas County area on Friday and Saturday accepting donations. Come out and support our local children. Every child deserves a Happy Holiday.
