Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Man jailed on felony after allegedly choking girlfriend
A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday in the 3500 block of Emerson Drive on felony suspicion of domestic battery with strangulation, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
In custody is John Joseph Burritt. He also faces two counts of violation of probation, both misdemeanors. His total bail amount is $26,000. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the Emerson Drive address at 11:17 p.m. on a 911 hang up call. Officers arrived and heard a commotion inside the home and a woman yelling “stop it.” Officers knocked and yelled at the man to come outside. The male responded “F*** you,” according to the arrest report.
A woman came to the doorway, was crying and told officers “he just kicked the s*** out of me. The officer went inside the home to find the suspect. The man was standing near the garage and wearing a green shirt, underwear and black tennis shoes. He was extremely intoxicated and swayed while standing. The officer ordered the man to the ground where he was cuffed.
The living room was in a complete disarray. Items from the home were broken across the floor. Two barstools chairs were on top of a pile as if a struggle took place inside, according to the arrest report.
Officers spoke with the woman, who said she and Burritt had been in a dating relationship and live together. She said she came home from work finding Burritt already intoxicated. She said he began an argument with her, and then assaulted her first by head-butting her, and then throwing her against the bedroom wall, according to the arrest report. She said Burritt then threw her onto the bed, and placed his knees against her chest and choked her to the point where she could not breath.
She said the man still had his hands around her neck when officers arrived. The skin around her neck was red and there were scratch marks on the right side of her neck. There was also a small black and blue mark next to her left eye. There were no injuries found on Burritt who was taken to jail and refused to submit to a preliminary breath test. Alternative sentencing informed officers that Burritt was under supervision with a “no alcohol” clause.
