Carson City Schools Foundation launches with promising community support
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 02/18/2015 - 5:56pmDuring a news conference to launch the Carson City School District’s fundraising organization, President Ian Hill announced the foundation had already been successful in securing donations.
“Before even announcing it to the world, we’ve already raised $27,500,” he said.
Hill, a business owner and motivational speaker, addressed the crowd gathered Wednesday morning in Carson High School’s Senator Square to explain the purpose of the foundation. He told the students in the audience to review their goals for their lives.
Student videos to be aired at Carson City theater

As part of the freshmen transitions program at Carson High School, in its second year, students were tasked with creating 60second public service announcements.

WNC, Capital City Circles Initiative celebrate Recycled Rides project

The restoration work was done by Western Nevada College automotive instructor Dennis Marshall, his students, and several other contributors. The charitable project was created through a partnership between the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides program, the Capital City Circles Initiative and WNC.
Carson City Library staff take tour of Reno digital book and music distributor

“I would like patrons to come in and feel like they got the help they needed so they return,” said Director Sena Loyd. “The library is a community resource. They’re already paying for it through their tax dollars, so it’s important that they’re able to take advantage of it.”
The training sessions were designated by the library’s board of directors to take place on a Friday — when hours are typically shortened — every other month.
Changes at the Carson City Business Resource Innovation Center coming in January

The BRIC Carson City library resources will close on Jan. 9 at 5 p.m. and are scheduled to reopen in the main library Jan. 26.
“With the new technology assets at the main branch, it makes sense to bring the BRIC resources back to the main branch,” said Sena Loyd, Carson City Library director.

Rural Nevada programs awarded nearly $415,000 in state grants for tourism marketing

Gov. Brian Krolicki announced Wednesday. The Nevada Commission on Tourism has authorized $414,854 in grants for programs and activities designed to deliver more tourists to rural Nevada.

Thistle owns and operates the mobile company Justincredible DJ Entertainment covering Carson City, Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada. His new technology follows the authentic stylings of popular television game shows such as “Jeopardy,” “Family Feud,” “Minute to Win It,” and “Who wants to be a Millionaire?”
Charter Communications store in Carson City relocates to North Carson Street facility

"Beyond a new, larger location, the new store allows for hands-on demonstrations of Charter’s products, said Kim Haas, regional communications director for Charter.

WNC offers funding for dislocated worker training in machine tool, welding programs

Up to 12 students can receive up to $2,250 for the semester to cover student tuition, fees, books, and supportive services, and do not require income verification. Funds are limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified participants who fulfill application requirements. Dislocated Worker programs for the spring semester begin on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Carson City campus.

LTCC proposes 4-year public safety degree in state pilot program

After considering multiple options, LTCC's Baccalaureate Degree Steering Committee ultimately chose to propose offering a Public Safety Administration degree.

Emely Lopez, Claudia Vazquez, Kimberly Torres, Karina Munoz, Maria Pacheco, Deanna Earwicker, and Amber Seifert spent the day at the polls welcoming and assisting voters. Each year, CHS government teachers work in conjunction with the Carson City Clerk-Recorder’s office to provide student volunteers for the elections. We’d like to wish out-going Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover the best of luck in his retirement and we look forward to continuing our relationship with that office as Ms.
NDOT says its ready for winter snow season

Nevada Department of Transportation says it has finished its annual winter preparations, employing new technology and more than 80 snow plows and other equipment to help keep roads clear through the upcoming season.
