Sierra Nevada Corporation’s Ozmens pledge $5 million for UNR entrepreneurship center

To date, this is the largest gift the College of Business has received.
Space tech, manufacturing conferences highlight Nevada's future industries

This year’s conference will be held on Oct. 1-2 at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks. The event has been expanded to feature an Unmanned Aircraft Systems/Unmanned Aerial Vehicles conference with some of the field’s top experts, as well as showcasing exhibit booths both days.

The Nevada Division of Emergency Management/Homeland Security, and the Division of Public and Behavioral Health urges Nevadans to prepare for an emergency that would require self-reliance for three days without utilities and electricity, water service, access to a supermarket or local services, household medical needs, and possibly without response from police, fire or rescue.
Nevada panel OKs $1.25 million for drone testing

The Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee approved allocating $1.25 million from a $4 million fund set aside in the 2013 session to help the state develop the testing of the aerial technology.

OXS Gallery features art and words of noted Nevada writers

In “Words + Images: Broadsides from the Black Rock Press,” 34 one-sided printed pages show the work of noted authors, produced with handset type and relief plates. The exhibit runs Sept. 8 to Oct. 31.
Tyler Turnipseed Named Chief of Law Enforcement for NDOW
Submitted by editor on Wed, 08/20/2014 - 9:47amTyler Turnipseed was named chief game warden for the Nevada Department of Wildlife Monday. He is only the fifth Chief Game Warden in NDOW’s history, a position that oversees all game wardens in Nevada.
Game wardens enforce wildlife and boating safety laws across the state, in rural areas and on Nevada’s waterways. Turnipseed is relocating to Reno from Winnemucca where he spent 10 years as the sole game warden for that growing community.
Carson City fire command at Technology Way ends after suspicious package 'unfounded'

A suspicious package was reported at a state health facility at 4190 Technology Way. Carson City Sheriff's Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol have closed the road at the intersection of Arrowhead and Technology, according to dispatch.

WNC heads for higher ground to produce clean energy

Black Rock Solar, a nonprofit corporation in Reno that specializes in expanding the use of renewable energy, just completed installation of 666 panels atop the Bristlecone Building on the Carson City campus. At 180 kilowatts, the project is Black Rock’s largest roof array to date.
Young students learn computer programming and 3D design at UNR summer camp

And, their parents were happy. The students weren’t playing games; they were designing and building things like a whistle, buildings, hot air balloon, cars, DNA models, bracelets, airplanes and more, using a 3-D modeling and CAD design program.

Spokes America is a bike trip across the United States designed to make STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) accessible to students everywhere. The Spokes team will be at the Carson City Library with plans to run a “Learning Festival” during their June 16 visit.

The sidewalk on the south side of Robinson Street between Carson Street and Plaza Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, May 28, and Thursday, May 29.

The Performance Hall of the BAC was a full house for the forum, with hardly an empty seat found for the first segment where the candidates for sheriff were questioned. The audience was reduced to about half after the sheriff's candidate portion ended.

Western Nevada College graduates record number of students at spring 2014 commencements
Submitted by editor on Mon, 05/19/2014 - 7:37pmWestern Nevada College will graduate 543 students this spring. Commencement was held Monday in Carson City with a ceremony to be held Tuesday in Fallon. The class of 2014 will receive a record 581 degrees and certificates.
Also on Monday, the WNC nursing program graduates celebrated with a traditional pinning ceremony at the Carson Nugget. Dr. Tom Kubistant, a WNC psychology and communications instructor, delivered the Carson City ceremony commencement address.
Board of Regents appoints Burton as interim WNC president

Burton has served as the acting president since December 2013. He replaced Carol Lucey who resigned last year.
