PUCN schedules consumer session on AT&T application for Carson City
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has scheduled a consumer session for Thursday, Jan. 8, to hear public comment regarding AT&T’s application for relief as a designated provider of last resort in its Carson City service territory.
A telecommunications provider of last resort (POLR) is required to provide basic network service and business line service to any eligible person requesting to receive telephone service in a particular service area.
AT&T’s application requests that it no longer be designated as a POLR because it says two other telecommunications companies, Verizon and Charter, are capable of providing alternative voice service to the entire area for which POLR relief is sought.
State statute defines an alternative voice service provider as a retail service available through any technology or service, other than satellite, that provides voice-grade access to the public switched telephone network and access to emergency 911 service.
The consumer session is scheduled for:
Thursday, Jan. 8, at 6 p.m.
Hearing Room A
Public Utilities Commission of Nevada
1150 E. William St.
Carson City, NV 89701
Public comment will be limited to the contents of the application. AT&T and PUCN representatives will be present to hear comments and answer questions. A hearing on this application has been scheduled for Feb. 26.
Individuals with questions regarding the consumer session can contact the PUCN at (775) 684-6101. Information about AT&T’s application can be found on the PUCN’s website at puc.nv.gov.
