Changes at the Carson City Business Resource Innovation Center coming in January
The business branch of the Carson City Library, currently housed at the Business Resource Innovation Center (the “BRIC”), will be relocating back to the main branch in January 2015. The BRIC Carson City library resources will close on Jan. 9 at 5 p.m. and are scheduled to reopen in the main library Jan. 26.
“With the new technology assets at the main branch, it makes sense to bring the BRIC resources back to the main branch,” said Sena Loyd, Carson City Library director.
Current users of the BRIC’s computer lab will be able to continue to access the digital facilities at the @Two Digital Learning Center on the second floor of the Roop Street location during normal hours, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The move will also allow the Community Development Department to move the building permit and business license permit center from the second floor of the BRIC to the first floor for improved customer service. “With the majority of the foot traffic currently going upstairs, having these high demand services downstairs will be a big benefit to local contractors and the community,” said Lee Plemel, Community Development Director.
The changes will also affect the conference room policy at the BRIC. A number of organizations currently use conference rooms at the BRIC for after-hours meetings. Going forward, the large conference room will still be available but will require a city employee present in the meeting. Groups that currently have room reservations at the BRIC will be contacted directly to discuss options for holding their meetings in other city buildings.
These changes will be happening in conjunction with the announcement of the move of the Business Development Manager, Michael Salogga, to report to the city manager. “Moving Michael to the city manager’s office caused us to rethink how we could better deliver services currently offered at the BRIC,” said Nick Marano, city manager. “We will still be offering free business counseling services through the Nevada Small Business Development Center, lunch & learn education classes, the NxLeveL for Entrepreneurs course as well as continuing outreach and communication to the community,” said Salogga.
The Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) is affiliated with the Carson City Library. The BRIC is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is located at 108 E. Proctor Street. The Carson City Library is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and is located at the corner of Roop and Washington Streets.
