Digital Donation Drive: Donate your old devices to the Carson City Library

Oftentimes they’re put in a box and left behind. The Carson City Library has launched a plan to save gently used and in good working order older models of a number of digital tools.
Between Nov. 24 and Jan. 31, patrons can make a tax-deductible donation of working devices to the Carson City Library at its “Information Desk” inside the main branch at 900 N. Roop Street.
Nevada Department of Transportation promotes two staffers to executive positions

Reid Kaiser has been appointed as NDOT assistant director of operations and Sondra Rosenberg will serve as assistant director of planning.

This first-ever event, spearheaded by Inman News, was held at the former William Randolph Hearst estate, the Beverly House.
The exclusive group consisted of only 100 real estate professionals and agents. Chase International founder, president and CEO Shari Chase attended with agents Kerry Donovan, Donna Spear, Trinkie Watson, Marian Huish, Mary Kleingartner, and Georgia Chase.

Antarctic climate change conditions on ice shelf monitored by UNR researcher
Submitted by editor on Wed, 11/05/2014 - 7:36amFor the first time ever, scientists have recorded temperatures continuously at the bottom of an Antarctic ice shelf where warmer sea water threatens to erode the massive ice which, if it collapses and glacial melting occurs, could cause a three-meter rise in ocean levels around the world.
“This is the first time we can see the changes in the melting of these enormous ice shelves daily and at millimeter accuracy,” Scott Tyler, professor of geosciences at the University of Nevada, Reno, said. “This is critical for detecting the changes that may be occurring due to climate change.”

Senator Square: Carson High senior Caden Lehman wins national rodeo event

He is involved in Team Roping and Calf Roping and is a member of the American Cowboys Team Roping Association.
Recently at the ACTRA National Finals in Reno at the Livestock Events Center, Caden won the Super 7 National Championship, landing him and his partner, Jack Curry of Gardnerville, each new Royal T 3-horse trailers, buckles, and $10,000 cash.
Carson City judge blocks Uber service in Nevada
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/24/2014 - 6:59pmThe Associated Press is reporting that the Attorney General's Office has been granted a temporary stay that blocks Uber, a company that refers to itself as a technology business that arranges rides, from operating in Nevada.
District Court Judge James Russell in Carson City has blocked Uber from offering any rides in the state through at least Nov. 7. A hearing is set for Nov. 6.

Firefighters respond to two separate calls within minutes
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 10/08/2014 - 11:00amUPDATE: Carson City firefighters were called at 12:06 p.m. Wednesday to a fire involving a propane gas barbecue in area of 1900 Beverly Drive, according to Carson City dispatch.
Firefighters on call at Technology Way, where smoke was seen coming from a state health building, were moved to the Beverly Way fire. That fire was extinguished at 12:22 p.m. It was a barbecue on fire with flames coming out of the propane tank.
WNC to receive $4.4 million federal grant to assist job training

WNC in Carson City was selected as Nevada’s lead community college in the nation-wide $450 million job-driven training grants, as part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training program.
Administered by the Department of Labor, Nevada’s four community colleges will receive a total of $9,921,831 from October 1 through September 30, 2018.

The last time brothers Chris and Lorin Rowan played here was August 2012.

Dayton artist unveils painting of living Nevada governors and elected officials

The painting celebrates the 150th anniversary of Nevada statehood and will raise funds for the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture, a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and promotion of the Comstock Historic District, a National Historic Landmark.
