WNC to host April 11 emergency preparedness class

Okay. This is one of the hardest weekend lists I’ve ever had to do. This dump of snow has cancelled some events, but others are in full force. Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

I just don’t have it in me to make an Ides of March pun, but I guess I could take a stab at it. There isn’t really anything to be wary of today, so head out with abandon. Band students from all the Carson City schools, elementary on up, will get together this evening for a grand performance. Band-o-Rama will take place in the ‘big’ gymnasium at Carson High; get there early if you want a good seat. Learn more about the Court Appointed Special Advocates at their informational meeting; more volunteers are always appreciated.

Carson High School student wins $1,000 Edible Pedal 100 Scholarship

Mikeala Asby, a Carson High School culinary arts student will receive a $1,000 college scholarship from the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise for working at the Club’s 7th annual “Edible Pedal 100” bicycle ride.

Two Historic Carson Valley ranches listed in the Nevada State Register of Historic Places

The Nevada Board of Museums and History gave final approval Monday to list both the Wilhelm and William Lampe Ranch and the Louis and Elmer Stodieck Ranch in the Nevada State Register of Historic Places. The Nevada State Register is the State’s official list of places worthy of preservation.

There is absolutely a little bit of everything this weekend. I think the eclectic mix of happenings is one of my favorite things about our corner of the world.
